Lifespan for forum topics?

   If this already exists, I apologise in advance.
   
   What about having a set lifespan for a forum topic? Just lately I have spotted a lot of forum topics at the top of the list, indicating that they have just been posted in.
   
   When I go to read them with the intention of posting a reply, I discover that the topic is 12 months old or more. Sometimes the automatic "please do not post" message, but not always.
   
   Could we have a set time where a topic just drops?

      Toby, I almost posted the same thing, about forum topics, when I saw your post. I absolutely agree!
      
      I think the legend (left side of page) that displays the forum topics should show the age of the topic. That way, you can decide if you want to participate on that forum or not.
      
      While many people are still responding to the posted topic, the originator of the topic has moved on and is no longer repsonding.

   I saw a post regarding a massive earthquake and thought WTF! Clicked and it was half a year old, suddenly remembered when it was fresh news and thought myself silly for worrying about these poor people being hit by two massive earthquakes in so short a time span as it was just the one!
   
   What the heck was the point of the random new post to it anyway?

   By all accounts, anyone can open a forum thread and not participate. I am not aware of any written rule that one is responsible for posting to the thread.
   
   All each of us do is open a thread to get other people's take on things. No participation required. Especially, if the OP is written well enough to convey the message to get across.
   
   The age of the thread is actually irrelevant when it comes to a topic. I would think that if a thread is 9 months and still getting replies, then it's a great topic. If someone revives a thread that was started 9 months ago, but hasn't had a post to it in 5 months? Then, I have a problem with it.
   
   It was a dead thread. Why revive it? I would agree that after a certain period of time, like a month or two, then are automatically closed to reply.
   
   Just my thoughts on it.

   A person revived a 11 month old thread. It has been dead for 11 months....?
   
   Now it is running again.
