Open commentary to Google

One of my articles is highlighted in the recent blog entry by Google’s Thomas Tran (http://blog.hubpages.com/2011/04/optimi … d-adsense/)

    The points he makes:

    1)    Write authentic, non-scripted, easy-to-read and structured content-  this is where my hub is referenced, so I must have got this right.

    2)    Get inspiration from Google AdWords Keyword tool and the Top Search Queries from the Google Webmaster Tools – did that for my hub.

    3)    Use unique and accurate titles – did that for my hub.

    4)    Promote your hubs internally and externally – this is where I have a big problem. Google continually tell me that unique quality content is what really counts – but I’ve only had 3 visits from Google for my hub mentioned above.

So as a writer I have to go out and ‘spam’ to get hundreds of links to my article so it looks like it is a good article. What has having a lot of links got to do with writing decent content? All it means is I have superior SEO skills.

If the article I am writing is unique then there simply isn’t any internal promotion as I have NO other hubs similar to it. I simply cannot comprehend why links are so important…..

I realize my article is less than a week old and I hope it will improve, but with the drastic reduction in all forms of Google traffic in the last day or two I simply cannot see why it’s worth creating quality articles.

I hate to say it, but aside from the competition awards, I feel I’ll be better served creating small 400 word articles and creating back-links on every site I can find – become more commercial and forget the ‘art’ of writing. I can crank out five to ten articles a day that do not provide any decent quality for Google, yet are likely to get ranked quickly.

It’s sad and very discouraging and really makes me think about throwing in the towel.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

@SimeyC: I understand what you mean, but refuse to write poor quality articles and build spam backlinks just to earn money. And, I am disappointed too, to see that low quality content is often displayed among the top return results by Google. Hopefully, this algorithm change will have a positive impact on getting rid of this phenomenon!

I am also wondering why these "rocket scientists" working for Google, as they are often referred to in bibliography, aren't that smart to adjust their algorithm to calculate the time interval between an original post and copied content published after this original post. That's strange to me!

Yep SimeyC, it's a mess!  All those spammy hubs which have been on this site for so long have caused us all of the trouble.  Of course, no one in charge here will address this point, either to deny or confirm it.

Instead, we are told to do the same things we have always been told to do, as far as writing quality articles are concerned, and to help clear the site of hubs which shouldn't have been allowed to be here in the first place. The irony of the whole thing is almost funny!  I said almost!  smile

    "Open commentary to Google"

And stop indexing the stolen content above the original source.

Eventualy, hopefully, Google will find there is a better competitor out there, I don't think its arrived yet, but if Google keeps screwing around it may well be a niche in waiting.

The HP search box is downright coordinated these days. Why doesn’t HP just release a couple thousand spiders out into the wild and start a little side-business…

Thanks for the post, SimeyC. I'm getting really frustrated about my google traffic as my hubs that used to be on pages 1 and 2 have all disappeared to google limbo.
