What is ethical about euthanizing babies with genetic abnormalities?

   Is it more humane to have someone live with a physical and/or mental disorder or to euthanize them after birth?
   
   Should it be legal for parents to euthanize retarded children?
   
   How much time and resources would be saved?
   
   How much harm would the child be protected from?
   
   Would human evoloution be expedited under such circumstances?
   
   Are those with genetic abnormalities hindering the progress of the human species?

      ...and this is the natural progression of the pro-abortion front.  Why stop at 12 weeks?  Why at 24?  Why at birth?  Why not old folks?  Why not anyone with disabilities?  Why not someone with the wrong color skin or eyes?  Study Germany's history for a hint of where this goes.
      
      Tragic to have the issue raised as acceptable to consider, but if you insist, at least call it murder rather than trying to polish it up.

         I am against abortion...
         You have some very hysterical anecdotes. I never knew that someone else is able to see so far into someone else's soul.
         I believe that if you are born with genetic abnormalities you should be euthanized for the prosperity of the species.
         
         It is very interesting that some people are so quick to think of Nazis before they think of Spartans... in such given circumstances.
         
         It is also interesting that you brought up the issue of race- skin color and eye color, before you chose to speak in words of reason... It is almost as if you have been programmed to speak on behalf of others.
         
         May I remind you that not all of Deutschland's history entails Nazis, as the nation you mentioned has existed far longer than many nations such as the US... it is important to note that it was not all that bad before and after the rise and fall of Hitler. Indeed, Germany is perhaps more progressive than the US- and by progressive, I am not using a liberal term, nor am I referring to liberals as being progressive.
         
         This comment was anything but sensible... It played off of the emotions of those who are docile... Another needless genetic abnormality of mankind.
         Face the fact.
         
         You can either chose to weed out what is harming society or you can let it breed itself into oblivion.
         
         I am against abortion, but pro-euthanasia... If those with genetic defects do not wish to be saved through euthanasia, then they must be rendered infertile at least.

            Hold on a moment, I thought genetic defects and mutations are how we are supposed to have evolved along the evolutionary ladder, if you take these individuals out of the ladder how will we ever get flying humans or humans with gills?

               Not really... Evolution only occurs among the offspring of individuals who mate with partners who are genetically dissimilar. All other mutations are usually caused by random events involving radiation, toxins, inbreeding and other similar agents. If you want improve your offspring process in evolution, mate with someone who does not look related to you.
               
               People such as those with down syndrome can't fly... and are probably the result of an interfering agent such as the forementioned.
               
               How many Spartan-looking people have you ever seen in the course of your life? Most people, when left to breed without licenses or a disciplined eugenics program, go from the Spartan form to weak couch potatoes, over the course of generations.

      I'm  pro choice,  and I also believe euthanasia should be OK.  But just in cases where the person is terminally ill or has a chronic and painful condition, not just because someone has a defect or mental disorder. (Not about babies, but I do believe assisted suicide shouldn't be penalized.)

         I don't like the term suicide, because it implies that the person who terminated their own god given life committed murder just before they died. I prefer the terms euthanasia and self-termination, because it is very simple and concise.
         
         If someone you don't know gave you a gift, should you not have the right to dispose of the said gift? What if you did not have a use for the gift?
         What if the gift was somewhat damaged?
