Thinking of starting a Facebook page just for my writing and hub sharing, separate from my personal profile. I will not be adding any of my current family and friends for right now. Any advice on getting new fans and likes on Facebook when starting completely from scratch ?? Thanks much.

Join forums of interest.  You can always link your sites as you converse with people on forums.

I don't think you can have two Facebook pages, so make sure you're using different emails for your different accounts - better check the fine print to avoid being banned

You can't have two real name profiles.  You can have as many business/pen name pages as you like.

Well, I have my personal page, and then Facebook lets you "create a page" where you can switch users in order to interact as one or the other, so I'm assuming it's fine.

Thank you, you've both solved an issue I've been wondering about!

I've got three Facebook Pages - for distinctly different purposes. Some of the target audiences overlap (eg those interested in sketching)
        * the Facebook end of my blog (coming up to 4k followers)
        * a page associated with my book about drawing and sketching (nearly 1k followers)
        * a very new UK page for groups of sketchers in the UK - doing well and growing

One of the key things about Facebook pages is you have to treat them pretty much like a blog. If you have one then you need to post to them on a consistent basis so people know what to expect.

Plus of course you have to post content that people will like/click and generally engage with!  Otherwise your Page will die a death!

You MUST post content that is nothing to do with you and slip your own stuff in from time to time.  Non-stop posting of your own content will generally get most people 'blanking' your Page

My view would be to grow your followers via a blog before you try a Facebook Page - unless you have an active and very specific interest and know the groups where people with similar interests hang out.

Thanks Makingamark. Yes, I don't have very many likes on my page yet because I'm drawing an audience that doesn't include people I already know. This will take some time. But yes, I have the idea of not overposting and I have my own blog website so I hope people find interest in it eventually.

          Thanks again.

I think what that means is - you start joining forums related to your interest - the focus of your new FB page so you can share the FB page/HP's on the forums...

I did that with twitter & pinterest too.  You can check my hub on adding social media to your business plan - it may offer some tips for you...  http://hub.me/ajPlM

^^^That's exactly what I meant ie. A beauty forum if that's what you write about.

Ideally, you already have an engaged audience visiting your articles and you gain likes by directing your visitors to the Facebook page. Most websites do this by displaying their social media accounts quite prominently in a sidebar or another location next to content, and some even display a popup.

However, it's harder to do this on HubPages because you don't have control of the page design and overzealous editors are likely to consider it spam if you link to your Facebook page from within your articles. If you can find a way to do it without it looking spammy, the main benefit is that the people who are liking your page are already interested in your content and are actively seeking to follow what you're doing.

From that point, post quality content to the page to encourage sharing. Sharing by people who have liked your page widens your reach by exposing your content to people who haven't yet liked your page. These people may then like your page or share the content to their own friends; thus growing your audience and influence.
