   basically it is a bill which hurts the seniors and the middle class and some of the lower class which costs more than the entire income of the federal income tax. the reason it hurts the seniors is that it needs money from social security to pay for it as well as hurting the middle class due to tax increases to help pay for it and finally the lower class who will pay into it by the value added tax which is a national sales tax on everything you ever buy. and that still won't be enough to pay for it.

   Many feel that government regulated health care is a quality of a socialist society.  They fear too much government intervention and control in a country that has claimed to be capitalistic.

   Boil it down to a few key points in the interest of space.
   
   High medical costs driven by demand for quality care and Research & Development to find new products and services.
   
   The burden of Medicare and associated programs on the taxpayer.
   
   The impact of Tort on medical costs which are ultimately passed on to the consumer.
   
   All of the above form the basis to conclude that the medical industry is out of control and requires reform.
   
   What our government officials have done is basically reinvent medicare with the provision to provide free medical services to all who cross our borders either legal or illegal.
   
   There is no provision for tort reform thus the lawyers continue to get their pockets lined while filing potentially frivilous lawsuits that come with no penalty to their side but pay off handsomely.
   
   The government in effect just socialized the medical industry and in the process put itself in charge of that industry.
   
   EFFECTS:  Greater financial burden to the taxpayer, no improvement in the quality of care (potentially a drop), a suppression of R&D and talent individuals entering the profession.
   
   The average American citizen who possess a work ethic and expects to pay something for healthcare wanted no part of this bill yet it was rammed down their throats. There you have the controversy in a nutshell.  WB
