Energy = mass * square of (speed of light)
The other answers are correct -- it means energy = mass times the speed of light squared. The cool thing about the equation, though, is that it means that mass can be translated into energy, and that energy can be translated into mass.

Does light have a terminal velocity? Is lights terminal velocity "the speed of light"?If we held a race between two beams of light, one beam being on a moving object and one from a stationary object, would the beam of light from the moving object arrive first at the finish line?

How can the speed of light be theoretically squared in Einsteins equation ?Yes we all know C squared gives a new number in Einstein's equation. But squaring the speed of light even theoretically is theoretically impossible.
