If the economic future of USA is to out-educate and out-invent our way out of crippliing debt then
Why are teachers being fired across the board, education funding slashed & college grants ending? Are USA politicians working for China & not for the U.S.? --------Hey that would make a good Hollywood movie - Chinese Intel agents blow dart a viral alien in the back of the necks of shakers & movers that make stupid decisions for the people the represent. Why start a war when can sit back and wait for a foe to self-destruct on itself - the term will be called "Sheening".?
Economy, debt, education, free market uncensored inventions, and politicians doing much more than getting paid would better topics in Grim's Fairy tales and Mother Goose.Become household terms with Santa Claus,Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.Their is power, control, greed, lies, and brainwashing and that is about the size of it......
Wow! This is insightful. Americans are told how important education is, but schools are taking a back seat to financing unpopular wars and the proliferation of the prison industrial complex. Already Americans spend roughly $185 BILLION per year to incarcerate 2.3 million people ($50 billion for actual prison costs, and the rest for prosecution and trial, etc.). But that is not nearly enough for private prison profiteers. The NAACP asked Congress to incriminate menthol cigarette smokers - the kind of cigarette that 80% of black smokers use. America's War on Drugs cost nearly $500 million in 2005 although less than 4% of the money went to drug rehab. If menthol cigarettes get outlawed, the price tag for that war will soar. Your relatives and friends who smoke menthol cigarettes will be imprisoned to supply more free workers to replace paid workers for Fortune 500 companies, federal and state governments who seek to avoid unions, minimum wage and worker safety laws. Crime and punishment have gotten to be a racket, and as usual, taxpayers pick up the bill. See my Hub, "NAACP vs. Black Cigarette Smokers" for details. Thanks!
Education is not a "Quick Fix" and we love our quick fixes. Politicians only have a couple of years to try and show they are trying to make an impact and we as a population like things to happen now.
Our government and our politicians constantly put our futures at risk by cutting or playing around with those benefits that will not come due for years or even decades in an effort to satisfy our supposed needs for today.
By the very nature of how our government works we are not encouraged to save for a rainy day.
Investments in education take 20 years to pay off... hand outs to the "needy" take a lot less time and result in votes to those politicians in the successive round of elections.
I think the problem is how you avoid excesses without compromising the quality of education. I agree that politicians may not be making the best decision. Even people need to realize that the government may not be able to do everything itself.

Education is a value in that nobody can steal them away from you, it drives a nation to be productive. On the other hand, if the economy...
