Is there an item you feel you must have to be able to write, such as a special pen or item that
makes you feel like a writer, that brings out your creativity or helps switch gears towards writing.?
Nothing physically, but it helps me greatly if I am in a place where I can respond to life out of my authentic self. For me, this is usually much more the case after a few minutes of meditation.
No, not really. I find that different end results come from different surroundings and methods, so I have to edit afterwards to maintain consistency in style. When writer's block erects its barricade, though, often a change of scenery, or using a pencil and pad instead of a keyboard, or taking a walk with a voice recorder in my pocket gets around it. Recognizing that makes it possible to use a variety of circumstances as a tool with which to make progress.
My laptop. This is all I need and I think this should be the only thing too
At least it mitigates the distractions, to not to have too many things around us.
I would share what personally works for me, but recently I have noticed various hubbers ( I wont call any names) continuously visiting my hub 20, 30 and some 40 times and have never left a comment or their two sense. I found it quite odd being that people usually visit hubs to read, and move on or leave a comment if they feel to do so. But the fact that they are visiting the same hub numerous times makes me think....why would anyone do that? Then it hit me, no wonder my hub scores are going down. At one point they remained consistent in its rating, but its continuously rises and falls due to bored individuals voting Down. Maybe they need some inspiration or food for thought for their hubs. Whatever, so sad hmmmmm well all I can say is people just love to take, take, take and never give back. So instead of sharing what personally works for me I will say focus. Focus on what you possess rather than what others possess, more than likely it won't work for you and/or make you confused and deter you
I only ask this question to see if other writers have an item or some cue they use to "get in the mood" as it were. I myself have a pipe that reminds me of Sherlock Holmes. It sits on my desk and occasionally dangles from between my teeth. I do not even smoke. The pipe is a visual cue that I am here to write. Strange, I know.
To Reeltaulk,
I have never before read one of your hubs and am a little taken aback by your decidedly hostile answer to this question. I did not ask for your super, secret squirrel method of churning out prize winning writing so that I might emulate your greatness. Please forgive the thinly veiled attempt to “steal” your idea of the perfect writing cue, although I fail see how it might confuse me.
I did hop on over to your page to see what I was obviously missing. I must admit that I did not leave my “two sense” since that would leave me with only three, and I could not for the life of me decide which two to give up. My apologies.
Thank you all for your exchange of ideas.

What do you do when dealing with someone who talks too much?I have a friend who talks feverishly, in a scattered way, continuously, like a monologue, and a lot of it doesn't make sense, even fantastic; he will hold you captive, drain you, and keep you from necessary and significant activities. It's...

Would you be able to write a hubpage about Argentina? I think many would enjoy it. Perhaps some photos of your beautiful countryside or cities would be good too.

Would you like to be able to write Hubs offline?I don't know about you, but I would like to be able to download an app for my iPad or laptop that would allow me to write hubs without an internet connection. I know that you can use word for the bulk of it, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to...
