   Where do you think the best beer comes from?
   
   I was in Germany for 5 months and it changed my view on beer forever...how bout you?

   All my favorite beers are from Europe, but more specifically Germany. Italian is pretty good, but my favorite beer comes from Bavaria ^_^

   In my experience, the best beers are from Germany and Holland... though I have to give credit where credit's due, there are a lot of good brews coming from small craft breweries in America nowadays.

   I don't know T15, being an American I drink Corona and Heineken.  Yet, I have found Canadian beer to be kind of smooth, like Molson.  Tell me about what you found in Germany? Was the beer anything like the Octobertfest.  I know Holland is the home of Heineken, did you tour the brewery while you were there? The red light district? Tell us about it!

   The Germans make fabulous beers, but only in a narrow range of styles. Belgium makes a wonderful range of beers bearing scant resemblance to the German beers. Britain is home to wonderful ales, although the young people tend to drink boring lager.
   
   Today, unlike 30 years ago, the United States makes the broadest range of beers in the world, and some of the greatest breweries in the world are in the US, examples being Sierra Nevada in CA, Bell's in MI, New Glarus in WI, Hair of the Dog in OR, Elysian in WA, Devil's Backbone in VA, etc. In the US you can get barrel-aged beers, sour beers, double IPAs, doppelbocks, weizens, porters, stouts, you name it.

   I was in Munich and lovedddddd the beer, especially the weiss (white) beer. However, I have not been deprived because I have found all my favorite German beer in the U.S.  I actually enjoy a lot of the American made brand as well such as Yuengling, Rolling Rock, Sierra Nevada, and some other local companies around where I live. There are also plenty of micro breweries in the U.S. that provide variety and great taste.

   Germany is a country I know very well, as my Dad has lived in Munich for the best part of thirty years. The beer in Munich is fabulous at any time of year but the principal breweries produce a special each year for Oktoberfest. This beer is usually stronger in terms of ABV than even the normally strong German beer, so great care should be taken!
   
   The helles beer in Bavaria is golden coloured, like American beer or British lager. The weissbier confuses a lot of people as the word weiss has two meanings in the German language. It can mean white - but in the instance of beer, it refers to wheat, from which it is made. Both are wonderful and dunkel weissbier (dark wheat beer) is actually a popular breakfast beer.
   
   I have been to Belgium and tried its beer and I know it gets a lot of accolades but I'm afraid I think most of it is inferior to German beer. The only country I have ever visitied where I would say its beer gives Bavarian beer a close run for its money is the Czech Republic. There is a beautiful little town in the Czech Republic called Plzen, where the word Pilsner in relation to beer comes from. The local beers here are really good - but again, very strong. Budejovice is also in the Czech Republic, the city from which Budweiser originates - though the Czech version is very different from (and vastly superior to) the American adaptation.
   
   My vote? Germany, very closely followed by the Czech Republic.
