   Do you think cycling helmets should be worn by law?
   
   In these times of 'booming' cycling, many areas are trying to introduce cycling helmets as compulsory, what are the views of many, cycling is a green energy, should a potential green transport be forced into wearing a cycle helmet?

   No, cycling helmets should not be compulsary.  Not only do they look ridiculous and make the wearer look like a twit, they can also lead the user into a false sense of security.  I believe that cycles would be safer if there was an age limit, a test and the award of a licence to those who pass, and cycle riders have to pay road tax and insurance, it should be a penalty if a cycle rider is on the road where a cycle track can be used, they should be not allowed to ride two abrest, especially when it holds up other road users.

   i'll just agree with what MickS said and add a bit to it. my biggest problem with such laws are that they remove a person's freedom and give the government even more power over us.

   In agreement with MickS and nightwork4, but more in response to Christopher Limm, I disagree with your idea of what the law is supposed to do.
   
   The word "law" defined: the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority and applicable to its people, whether in the form of legislation or of custom and policies recognized and enforced by judicial decision.
   
   The government really has no right to enact a law for this.  It's just as silly as requiring people to wear seat belts in a vehicle.  Sure, there are studies that show that a helmet is safer, but it should be up to the individual.
   
   Where I do have a problem, is when low-income folks are allowed to crash cars and bicycles and anything else, but have other people pay for the damages due to lack of insurance and lack of money.  That's a separate problem though - freedom should not be given to the government, they have enough to deal with that they've become inefficient at everything trying to police and enforce so many small things.
