Who are some of your favorite movie villains?
I'm thinking about writing a hub about best movie villains. Who are some of your scariest, most powerful, sadistic, evil, almost inspiring, intelligent, unpredictable, ominous, unforgettable movie villains?
Heath Ledger's Joker, Hanibal Lector, John Doe(se7en), The Media(Mad City- if you haven't seen the movie I suggest you do), Jack Torrence, Hans Grubbar(Die Hard). the list goes on forever but these are my personal favorites, the ones that will always stick with me
Pazuzu, the demon who possessed Regan played by Linda Blair in the film 'The Exorcist', The terminator from the film 'The Terminator' and Norman Bates from the film 'Psycho'.
It's been said that every story and every hero is only as interesting and good as the story's bad guy and the hero's nemesis - when I consider that idea the first screen villain that comes to my mind is Ricardo Montalbán's 'Khan' from "Star Trek", both the original series and the 2nd feature film . . . like Frazier with Ali, Khan highlighted Kirk's best heroic features. He was intelligent and haunted, deadly and visually stunning.
Along that same line I think of 'Connor MacLeod's' arch-enemy Clancy Brown's 'The Kurgan' in "The Highlander" . . . again, the story and the hero would be less impressive if the villain were not so impressive.
I also think of Christopher Lee's 'Dracula' in the Hammer films - debonair European host in the day, and ravenous beast at night when the blood-lust is upon him . . . and again, the perfect counterpoint to Peter Cushing's methodical and driven 'Dr. Van Helsing'.
And, I think, you can't present a valid list of screen villains without pointing to;
'Nurse Ratched' - "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"
'Mrs. Danvers' - "Rebecca"
'Reverend Harry Powell' - "The Night of the Hunter" . . . Robert Mitchum is about as scary as a human villain can get.
'Mrs. Eleanor Shaw Iselin' - "The Manchurian Candidate" . . . Angela Lansbury (from "Murder She Wrote" and Disney films) is as evil and creepy as a screen villain can get.
Wow! Great answers so far! Keep them coming. Nurse Ratched and and Robert Mitchum's character from Night of the Hunter are some of the scariest I've seen. I've always been too freaked out to watch the Exorcist or Rosemary's Baby. I should probably man-up and watch those flicks. And yeah, Khan has always been one of the more compelling villains for me. In fact Star Trek 2 is the only one I've seen and really liked (I'm not much of a Trekky). But Khan is a great character and totally empathize with his plight. Yeah, Alan Rickman in Diehard is completely heartless and unabashed. Great choice. Keep them coming!

i wrote a hub on this already
Hannibal Lector has to be the Number One Movie Villain of all time. I'd even give Dracula second place to Hannibal. That scene where he escaped from the cage by wearing the guard's skin....
I actually liked Heath Ledger's Joker in the Batman film. I thought he was richly funny in a very perverted way.
Freddie in the Nightmare on Elm Street series has to be the most peculiar villain. I don't know whose genius put the guy in a hockey mask, of all things...it made him SO SCARY! Just a stupid old hockey mask, but it worked!
One of my very favorite but little-mentioned movie villains is Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman in Sleepy Hollow.
I think as far as a movie villain is concerned, HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably my favorite. Whereas with all the other villains mentioned by everyone else, with HAL there's no room for trying to reason with him, as his actions are governed by pure logic and a one-track goal of completing the mission. Anyone or anything that he sees as a potential threat to the completion of his mission he will remove by any means necessary.
Seeing humans as a threat, he kills one by jettisoning them into space, and then deactivating the life support systems of a number of others that were in suspended animation during their voyage. It's a cold and emotionless efficiency to his actions, befitting a computer.
What's worse is that, unlike most of the others listed, a computer like that is still rooted in reality. With us continuing to strive towards Artificial Intelligence, who knows if we'll ever create our own version of HAL.

Hey you guys out there. What is your favorite Villan, bad guy or Monster. For me, number one has got to be The Joker, from The Dark Knight. It's errie to think that after Heath Ledger played that character died...That is scary in its own right. So what's yours?

What are some children's movies that don't have scary characters/scenes?My kids are terrified of the "bad guys" in the most popular movies. We are looking for alternatives.
