Why do some people have more than one account?

I've noticed that several people have more than one account. I was wondering what the reason for this would be. Why would you need a second account?

I have a second account to seperate my topics I write about. This is my primary account where I write about 4 or so topics for the most part. The other account is for my more basic writings. This account is more the open me. While the other account I keep my mouth closed and stay away from debates about religion and politics.

So you treat each account differently. One you have for more social reasons.

Some people like to write different types of hubs and believe they need more than one account for this.  I personally like to have a variety in one account, but I think some people use such different techniques depending on their hubs, they like to have different accounts.

Good question. Is it not against Hubpages rules?

There are no rules against it, you just have to register with seperate email for each account.

No, as best I can tell peeples has the right of it. Hubpages doesn't seem to care. And you'll notice that people talk openly about it in the forums and in answering questions.

I have only one account but I would imagine that some people like to have niche hubs.

It's really no different than having more than one bank account or email account.  Some people just like to separate their writing and activity into different accts/users.  Maybe one is devoted to more serious writing and the other's article library is a grab bag of topics.  One persona gets involved in forum debates, and the other maintains a more professional image.

I only have one Hubpages identity because I'm too busy with other things. But if I wanted to start writing on non-math topics, I would create a new one to keep this acct "pure."

I can understand this. I've actually been considering dividing my hubs up but I think I'll wait for a while.

May be some one wants different topics on every account and don't want to merge all hubs together or someone is doing marketing may be and the third option is that someone just create that for fake identity.

That must be true. Thanks for the comment.

I like to separate my hubs based on niches, so I have more than one account.  chrisinhawaii is the one I use for interacting with other hubbers, and the other 2 accounts rely strictly on search traffic.

Besides the niche thing, one of my accounts centers on keywords with high CPC, so I actually deactivated the Ad Program for that account to increase my chances of getting Adsense clicks.  Those hubs are young and aren't getting tons of traffic yet, so I can't verify that this approach is more profitable than just using the regular Ad Program.  But I have read from other hubbers who've approached monetization this way, and they're stats show dramatically increased Adsense earnings by deactivating their Ad Program.

It makes sense when the CPC for that niche is high.

    I hope that helps.  Aloha

Thanks Chris. That does help a lot. When I asked the question I had an idea of why and you not only confirmed this but added something else I didn't consider to it.

There's a certain appeal in going "anonymous". Perhaps the niche you devoted much time to is starting to bore you and you want something edgier to exercise your wit on. This is a perfect example of (and a reason for) opening a second account to try different things with.

Another reason is taking a pseudonym. If you're already writing under your own name and don't want some of your writing to be associated with it, it's better to roll the dice under a different name. You know, kinda like Belle de Jour a.k.a. Brooke Magnanti.

I don't know those people but I get your meaning. Like if I had a job interview and later they googled me, the 2nd or 3rd thing they'd see is my HP account. With a pseudonym anything edgy I said wouldn't effect my job prospects. Thanks for answering.
