At what age would you send your children to a sleep away summer camp?
I think once my children reached about the age of 12 or 13 I would be comfortable with them going away to summer camp. That's about the time they would start Boy Scout campouts. If they really want to go, I would research the best summer camp, visit when possible, and keep in touch to make sure they are being treated well.
I would only let them away at a sleep away camp if it was offered by a church. For me, it was middle school when that happened.
I'm not dogging church because I believe religion is a very important thing, but maybe you mean YOUR religion. There are a few I wouldn't let my child go with.
Honestly, I don't like calling it my religion. The religion I most relate to. Even then, it's a stretch.
Fair enough, the religious grow will interact for free?
My daughter when to a church camp for about 5 days, when she was 12 or 13.
I think the key is that they really have to want to go and of course parents need to check the place out to be sure it is safe and the kids are properly supervised.
