What do you think about women breastfeeding without ever having been pregnant?
i didnt know it was possible. interesting. if babies are being fed and taken care of , it seems ok to me.
Back in the day, women did it in the interest of the children. If the biological mother was sick, or away, or couldn't do it for any reason, another woman would help out. Usually, no harm done!
I haven't heard of people doing this, but my brother had a dog that would nurse another dog's pups when she hadn't given birth to any of her own. I guess if it works for them there's nothing wrong with it.
How is it possible? Those women will not have any breast milk to feed babies.
I know it is possible because we had a female cat -named Itty-Bitty- that was born sterile, but when her sister ignored her own kittens Itty-Bitty developed milk and nursed her litter. It was heartwarming to see; Itty-Bitty literally adopted those kittens. She died without ever having bore her own, but she nursed and cared for many a stray and orphan in her lifetime. I think that is pretty impressive!
Did you know that humans could do the same thing? However it's not quite so easy and automatic, otherwise everyone would know about it.
I had not heard of it, but I feel it has to be possible
I think it is amazing. Knowing that if I ever needed to I could make my body produce milk and nurse a baby again.
Yes, I knew this. Even years down the road. A mother can start pumping and doing exercises to get her milk to come back in.
It is yet, another amazing thing that comes from being able to breast feed. The ability to nourish a child, even without giving birth to them. It doesn't have to be your own. You can pump for or even breasttfeed another persons kid.
However, it is very time consuming, and it takes a lot of effort. Just breastfeeding in general is time consuming and takes effort.
It can be done by anyone who have the ability to lactate.
Nice. Where did you learn this? Is it something you've done before? I learned about it considering an infant adoption and not wishing to use formula. I wanted to know my options.
My breastfeeding counselor had a friend who had done it. I have not done it. She had a friends baby who was having problems with formula. Her friend was unable to breast fedd due to health problems. She had starting pumping for her friend
What a great way to show someone you care! That's a huge commitment, and a huge sacrifice for a friend. I hope my friends would do something like that for me!
Isn't that called foreplay? LOL!
Seriously I did not know women could lactate without having been pregnant. I've never known a woman who did lactate as a norm.
Our society is very fixated with breast so much that we often forget that their primary purpose is to feed infants and not illicit sexual arousal. I believe one of the reasons breast feeding in public is so controversial is because we've placed the sexuality of breast above their primary function. Some people have a problem with it even if the breast and the child's head are covered.
To be honest with you I'd rather see a woman breast feeding in public than watch her changing a crappy diaper. (I've seen both) LOL!

Some health recommendations are saying that 'freshly' pumped breast milk should be made available for mothers. Alright, I'm one for fresh milk and baby's health but isn't milk from 'mother' better than from a unknown 'nanny' or two? I know it's been done in the past and those milk sources were from...

We have all heard of attachment parenting and co-sleeping etc. But is it too much to be breast feeding your almost 4 year old son??? In my former profession as an RECE I have met many women who have done this and I have seen the results of this process, not always so positive especially in later...
