Firstly, be sure that a lower sodium diet is healthy for you. Despite the media, not everyone needs or even benefits from low sodium diets.Only blood work which tests your sodium and other electrolyte levels will tell you for sure.
In fact, many times it's that the person is not getting enough potassium in relation to the sodium.
So, to strike a better balance, be sure to eat fewer processed foods and more potassium rich foods like bananas, leafy greens, acorn squash, white beans, etc. The advantage of focusing on adding these great nutrition stars is that you'll get so many more nutrients and have less room for the processed foods!
If it's a pre-packaged food, you can bet that it has very high sodium. It's a combined effort to make it taste better and last longer. So, to really cut down on sodium, your best bet is to make more food from scratch.
Stop eating processed foods, they are full of sodium. It is also in soda and sauces too. You definitely need to read labels because it is hidden in so many of the foods you eat.
I vowed to NEVER use the salt shaker ever. I do read the labels and avoid high sodium items. I use frozen or fresh vegtables. I have my sodium checked yersly and it is always below the recommended levels. Makes the Doctor happy!
Being below recommended levels and your doctors are happy? I would think they would be concerned. Sodium is a very important nutrient for the body. If you are below recommended levels and your doctors are happy, you may want to get another opinion.
Oh I guess I worded that wrong. I meant that my levels are far below the maximun levels allowed.
