Is it possible for all classes to enjoy the same standard of living?
No.
For the most part in a "free world" ambition, desire, determination, and persistence has more of a bearing on the quality one's living standards then anything else. Some people are more goal oriented and inclined to work harder than others! That's instinctive.
While one child prefers to stay in his room watching TV and playing video games, another child may be knocking on neighbors doors offering to mow their lawns, rake their leaves, or shovel their snow for money. The first child relies on his parents to give him spending money and the second is independent and self-reliant. Odds are if they maintain the same patterns in life as adults the second child will end up having a more financially secure and higher standard of living.
So, what you're saying is that a person who is independent has the highest possibilities of having high living standards? But won't that refer to one's own abilities and nature? Not everyone has a similar nature of being responsible.
How would you define an acceptable standard of living? To your question, the answer would be no. I would think that the only way to ensure such a uniformity would be to, as in a totalitarian form of government, mandate a certain standard, that all must live by. Who defines that standard and by all, are you including government officials or the ruling elite?
To accomplish your objective, you would have to void out individual achievement or tie in the non-achievers with the achievements of the few. I do not think that this would bode well with the few and would have the net result of muzzling the contributions achieved by the few.
Individual freedom would not exist in this world and, essentially, you will have created a sheep farm.
Altruism and Utopias do not exist in real terms regarding the human animal, but they do serve a Marxist mindset of empty promises, much as religious belief and can be best described as a herding strategy.
cjhunsinger, They said (same) standard of living. I agree with you it's impossible. There will always be those with higher IQs, stronger, faster, better looking, hardworking, or more likable than others. Life is not fair! Equality is just an idea.

Two trains of thought are being bantered back and forth. Does a raising of the minimum wage create job loss and lower profits and more unemployment or does it increase disposable income thereby jump starting the economy and increasing hiring?

With the continual outsourcing of jobs to other countries, the struggling national economy, and the unrealistic ability for everyone to earn a college degree, should minimum wage be eliminated?Just something that I have been thinking about and I would love to get your opinions on.

I recently went back to the university I graduated from a little over 2 years ago to visit my old advisor I informed her that I am now in school online getting my masters in technology instruction. She was so proud of me that she decided to call the technology professor to brag on...

With the average of 50% of Americans living below poverty, is there any chance of recovery or will we as a society keep ignoring it and just hoping it goes away?
