Why do people think it's okay for children to play with toy guns or even take them to a gun range?

Most children learn about guns via media entertainment designed for them or by seeing that which is supposedly designed for adult viewing. When the money made by the people who do that sort of teaching dries up, children will be less interested in guns.
In the meantime, efforts to teach them about the dangers, the responsibilities, and the consequences of not being responsible are important.  It true that not everyone involved in teaching children about guns is as responsible as they need to be, but that is true in every area of life--doctors, lawyers, teachers, and Indian chiefs all have weak members who have weaseled into their professions and even killed (or are responsible for actions that killed) children/adults by their negligence--however, that does not mean that all reasonable efforts to educate and help people should stop.

kids shouldn't play with toy guns even it if free gift or given by someone. Guns will teach kids to violence and negative opinions when they grow up.

I grew up and moved from a state where guns were near impossible for the 'average joe' to legally get.  I now live in a state where purchasing a gun is as easy as getting a rewards card at Staples.

Though I have not yet sat down with my son and begin showing him how to safely use our gun, I do stress the importance of safety when he handles his toys weapons (could be a water gun, take sword on Halloween, etc.).

One of the biggest reasons I do this is because there is the strong possibility that one day in the future he'll be hanging out with his friends.  And one of them may decide it would be cool to take out their father's gun and show it off.  So I want my son to know what to do and how to stay safe if he finds himself in that type of situation.
