Your opinion on American Healthcare
As you know, Obama is trying to implement free healthcare for Americans, but what that means is that the taxes will be raised on public goods, this has all caused a huge debate, what is your opinion on the matter should American's receive free healthcare with raised taxes, or should nothing be changed?
I agree with Obama. I don't think anyone should have to suffer or get turned down for treatment because they don't have enough money to pay. Healthcare should be free and I'm willing to pay more taxes for it.
I agree with you as well, being from canada and being supplied with free healthcare it makes me sad to see that a lot of americans have to pay for necessary treatment, and a lot of the time they can't even afford it.
The number one cause of bankruptcy for senior citizens in the U.S. is medical expenses. Even those with insurance that have to pay 20% out of pocket can go broke with a single surgery and a couple days in a hospital. Prescriptions are higher here
"Obama is trying to implement (free healthcare) for Americans". Hardly!
The "Affordable Healthcare Act" is far from being free!
It's makes it mandatory for everyone to buy healthcare. Money that was set aside in other programs are used to set up "exchanges" in the various states in conjunction with Medicaid.
The idea is if a large pool of healthy people are onboard it will help drive the cost down for insurance and more than make up for the seriously ill people. Among the key benefits is no one can be turned down for health insurance because of an existing illness. Parents who have children who under 25 can keep them on their insurance plans.
The goal is to bring down all premiums and automate redundant processes.
It's is the "mandatory requirement" that a lot of people hate. Some people feel they should not be required to pay for health insurance if they don't want it. Medical professionals are also concerned about a decrease in earnings as many fees and services offered will be according to negotiated pricing.
I suspect many years from now Obamacare will be similar to Social Security which is another tax that many people fought against in the 1930s. People have come to rely on it.
Today it is seen as a "sacred cow". No one wants to abolish it. Having said that I believe lots of Americans will still seek to buy prescription drugs in Canada and Mexico to save money.
We pay for our "free" health care, both with premiums, and with taxes. The Affordable Care Act made it possible for me to afford health insurance last year, for the first time in my ten years of self-employment. I was not turned down or penalized because I was diagnosed with cancer in 2013.
I happen to live in one of the states that refused to accept extra MediCare dollars, so a lot of my fellow Texans still fall between the cracks: not able to afford health care through the Marketplace, eligible for MediCare, but not able to get coverage there, either. It's a stupid loophole, created by our boneheaded governor's refusal to accept Federal funds.
I think what President Obama has started is just that: a start. I think we should get rid of the health care for profit model in the US, to really make care affordable and accessible to all.
I think the current Affordable Care Act is a good thing for a large number of Americans. My sister was paying over $500 a month for insurance under COBRA. She has a pre-existing condition so having insurance is important. Under the ACA, she now pays $115 a month for very good coverage & is able to go to all her same doctors plus many more.
Having "free' healthcare or affordable healthcare is important. Uninsured people will continue to flood emergency rooms for care & the taxpayers pick up the tab for the uninsured anyway. Having healthcare that allows these people to use regular doctors will lessen the burden to hospitals & emergency rooms while costing less.

This is an unscientific poll.I am curious to know the answers to four very simple questions:1. Do you have health insurance now?2. Who pays the premium (main monthly cost) of your health insurance?e.g., employer, government program, you, other3. If you didn't have insurance through a group...

Obama indicated in his promissory speeches that he would improve America? However, he has done nothing of the kind, in fact, he has made America much worse since his takeover in the White House. Do you think that America has become worse under President Obama? The main crux of Obama's...

Can anyone explain the Affordable Care Act to me?I was honestly going to make a Hub about this, asking this very question, and I had written 800 something words on the subject. Ok actually it's more like a mild rant, but I think this would be better as a Hubpages question rather than a Hub that no...

What, if any, role should the government play in determining individuals' adoption of health insurance? If you think everyone should be required to have some form of health insurance, why? If you don't think it's necessary, why not? Consider the effects of pre-existing conditions, monopolies on...

"Solving that conundrum exposes one of the ugly little secrets of the Republican right today — and one of many reasons why that movement no longer merits the honorable title of "conservative." For what we can now observe in practice is that the Republicans perversely prefer a...
