   Do pot bellied pigs make good pets?
   
   A lady is trying to find a good home for her pot bellied pig of only 4 months (all papers and vaccines in order plus vet info): my concern is that while I am familar with animals owning a small farm, I'm not too familar with pot bellied pigs. My dog of 14 years died a few years ago and I can't replace him with another dog. I thought since I work from home so much and have other animals, this little animal might make a great pet for my 3 year old as she loves the other animals. The other thing is her neighbours have already tried to poison him twice and she just wants a good home. I care.

   Potbelly pigs are very hard to raise, my aunt had one for about three months until she couldn't handle taking care of it anymore. She lived in an apartment which didn't give the hyper little piggy much room to run around. These pigs are cute but require a whole lot of running space.

      That's different than what this lady said, and I was wondering about space. I was thinking surely he'll need space: she said he's fine once walked. Thanks Mary, I'll go with your Aunt's experience.

   Not for a 3 yr old child, I would say.  Pigs can be cute pets, but they're messy, eat a whole lot and are very active.  They are dirty animals in that they DO love to roll in mud....as well as their own feces.......So, consequently they need to be bathed or hosed daily if you want it as a pet. They;re smart, but require a lot of work (upkeep)
   The best people to ask would be Lisa and Oliver Douglas from "Green Acres!!"  LOL  They had happy, adorable Mr. Arnold Ziffel.   But he was a highly trained actor and belonged to the Union......and lived inside.  You want a pig in your house??

   They can make good pets but they take a lot of work and cleaning up after. They are very messy creatures.
   I cleaned a ladies house one time and she had a pot bellied pig- her pig was far less than friendly and loved to eat/play with newspapers and phone books.. So that was one hefty mess i had to clean.

      That's why I told you.. I have a 10 month old and I couldn't even imagine having him and a pig. Lol
