What happened to the "contact the author" thing? Can't find it.
Not all of us have this feature anymore. I removed mine because I was getting so many people asking for answers that I could not provide without an exam and lab tests! If the writer still has this feature, you can find it on the profile page, just to the right of the profile photo (underneath last activity.)
I hope you are feeling well.
Thank you. I'm much better than I was but have been left with some uncomfortable side effects. For example, I often "go blank" for a minute or so when talking to people or working on articles. There are other things, too, but at least the docs saved my vision, I am able to walk, write, do basic chores, etc. So I am thankful.
"For example, I often 'go blank'".
Me, too; every time I turn on the news. It's a sanity defense mechanism.
Nope, it's gone. I must have deleted it. Sorry now that I did that!
Sondra, I know you’re asking this because of me. I found your question in the Q&A on one of my hubs.
As the others have mentioned here, I’ve also disabled “contact the author” in my profile. For that matter, I noticed you also disabled it on your profile as well.
I don’t use it since my reply would show my email address to the recipient, and one never knows if that might be a hacker trying to get email addresses for future spamming.
Nevertheless, as a courtesy to you, I just answered you in the Q&A, but I’m going to have to delete that after you read it since it’s off topic for that article. Hope it’s helpful.
Thank you so much. I didn't realize I had deleted my Q and A, but then my memory isn't so great since the brain surgery. I'll look at it right now and am praying your answer is one that will work for me. You're a good man!
Sorry if I sounded confusing here. I didn’t say you deleted anything. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you since your brain surgery. And wishing you a better new year.
I've been working with this since my last post to you and cannot get it to work. Windows Media Player is saying it does not recognize my media, yet I know most of it is in MP4. Could you give me more detailed directions for this? If I don't figure this out, 50 years worth of DVDs will be rendered unusable except for home viewing when they could be used to help RV enthusiasts, etc. Anything you can do will be very helpful. Thanks. Brain surgery does take a toll.
Windows Media Player does not recognize MP4. Apple computers do play those files however.
To play on a Windows computer with Windows Media Player, you’ll need to convert those files to WMV or AVI videos. Look for a video converter with a Google search, or pick one up at Best Buy.
Another idea: create a YouTube channel for yourself and upload the MP4 files. That’s how I do it. YouTube accepts MP4. Then you can make them available to your RV enthusiasts via your channel.
I'm already doing that with new videos I'm creating, but that is not the problem. The problem is that my travel videos were videotaped and then transferred to DVD. I can open and look at them using VLC, but cannot edit them because I cannot get them off of the VLC and onto my desktop so that I can put them on an editing program. They need to be split into sections and each section then uploaded to YouTube. THAT is the problem. They each are 2 hours long...! There has to be a way to transfer those files to a usable means of editing, but I cannot find it. I've used VLC to convert some of them to MP4 because that is what YouTube takes, so the Windows Media Player isn't going to work. Now I have to find a way to remove it as my preferred video player. This is a mess.
Good news. I've resolved the problem. WeVideo is a video editor that loads MP4 and uploads the entire section I was trying to separate from the videos! So easy that I missed it! It's easy to work with, also, so I signed up. So relieved. I just knew there had to be a way to do this. Thanks for your generous efforts!
Sondra, You can use VLC to rip the files from the DVDs and convert to MP4. I found this detailed explanation of how to do it:

Thanks. I've tried those directions before and keep running into, at the end, that if I save I'll lose all of my existing media files. I believe this is a codex problem that can be fixed, but I'm not adept enough to do it. The other way seems to be working just as well.
You should always have a backup copy of all your files. Then you don't have to worry about losing anything.
As for codex, you can always add the proper codex to the Windows Media Player so it can play the MP4 files. But I didn't mention that because the other method discussed is easier.
It looks like you're all set though, based on your prior comment.
Yes. I just used the new method to edit my first video and upload it to YouTube. Took a loooong time, but I finally got it done. I just would hate to see all of that info and entertainment go to waste. Most people who RV do the standard stuff...national parks, tourist venues, etc. We did some of that also, but we also had hugely unique experiences that enriched us and our travels so much! Take a look at my profile ... some of it is listed there. Others can do the same if they are inspired, and that's always been my goal with HP and now with YouTube. People are starting to read and subscribe, and I hope it continues.
GLad to hear you are doing well since your surgery. We all are having blank moments. I call them train wrecks.

If I have Windows Media Player and I download an audio book shouldn't it work automatically?I had a lot of issues when I downloaded an audio book. And I was able to view and hear stuff on Youtube so I know it wasn't that.

I saved a video as .wmv format, and when I try to upload it it's not recognized as possible upload item. The video does not appear in the folder I'm looking at.Then I went to see what format was an older video that worked few weeks ago, and it was the same .wmv, so it should work. However, in the...

I used to have an eHow account, but when they closed the Writer's Compensation Program back in May/June, I removed my articles from the site and deleted my account.A couple days ago, I republished one of the articles here, and yesterday I got an email informing me that the hub had been unpublished...

I was studying the Authorship Markup on the new profile format that has been released for staff only at this time. I noticed that the HTML link to other profiles is coded as rel="me nofollow". This defeats the purpose of rel="me" for Google authorship markup since...
