It's a semi-diary type hub, but I've only received two visits classed as "organic" since November. "Building a Shed" and variations on that title are very competitive, but is this unusually low? Usually I get 1 view per day on average from other sources.

That few organic views just doesn't seem right to me but it could be because Google is looking at it as a blog entry and giving it less weight than a factual or How-to article.
If it were my hub, I would retitle it to "How to Build a . . . " and then I would re-write it to be in the third person and use my personal experience building a shed as examples of the concepts that I am writing about. Perhaps then Google would recategorize it from a personal blog to something more factual and give it better placement.
It was a blog entry made up of several posts, but I deleted all those and although the content was showing up in searches, the cached content no longer appears. I used the title "How to Build a Garden Shed" for a couple of months but it didn't appear in the first 200 SERP results (probably because there are other shed building articles on Dengarden).
Have you tried "How to Build a Steel and Wood Garden Shed" or "How I Built a Steel and Wood Garden Shed"? That way you would show up in the search results for garden shed, steel shed, steel garden shed, wood shed, and wood garden shed. I've found that the more keywords I can cram into my titles, the better my organic search results are.

According to GA, my article about building a garden shed has only had 5 organic search visits since the 1st January. Is this unusual? Is some organic traffic classified as direct or referral?

Despite being bad overall, the damage to the niches by the various Google algorithm updates over the past two years has been uneven. While Pethelpful has suffered relatively less, Dengarden seems to have taken a huge hit. I've attached a graph of traffic from SEMRush as an illustration of how bad...
