Site Diversity and Redirects

   On request, one of my articles was moved back to Dengarden after spending a year on Owlcation. I'm hoping it can rank again for title keywords which it couldn't do because of the Google Site Diversity thing. I know existing Owlcation links on Pinterest or whatever will redirect to Owlcation, but should I change any references so there's no connection whatsoever which could eliminate the article from SERPs?

   The search engines will get the new URL eventually, there's no need to do anything.

      So do they ignore the Owlcation reference in existing backlinks? I just don't want to have any connection with the site.

         If it leads to a broken link, yes it will be ignored. If it is a redirect, it would still be associated, but in this case it would probably help you because it is redirected from one "good" site to another "good" site.
         
         May I ask you whom you contacted to get this done? I want to change my tomato fruit or veg hub from Owlcation to Dengarden.

            I just contacted the normal email address, team@HubPages.com. I explained to them that I thought the article would do better on Owlcation in the STEM category and they agreed. It ranked better for a while, but soon after, the Site Diversity changes were implemented by Google and that's possibly why it could never rank for the important keywords from it's title. Getting it moved back to the home improvement category on Dengarden was more difficult because they still thought it was better suited to Owlcation, so I had to keep nagging them.

   I use https://hubpages.com/help-wizard/ to get a hub moved from one niche site to another.
   
   Choose the option "other" for type of problem, then write your request in the comment box. One of the team usually replies within a few days, and the article gets moved within a week.

   Thanks, Beth, I'll do that. After the changes to Maven, I was not sure whom to contact for this kind of stuff anymore. I used to just write to Robin earlier.
   
   @Eugene, I think I'm going to have to do the same because it is technically a better fit for Owlcation, but it's never managed to get to the first page and it is a high search volume query. I feel I can better interlink when it is on Dengarden.

      To me, Owlcation is one of the "rag bag" niche sites on HubPages - it's far too broad to be recognised by Google as a single niche, and it suffers for that reason.   I wish my dance Hubs didn't have to sit on Hobbylark, which would be a good niche site if it was all about games, but suffers because it's got stuff like dance tacked on.

         I agree. Other than the health sites, I've noticed these "rag bag" sites are the ones that do not do really well. Do you think the team would be open to suggestions on creating a new niche site for dance?

            I doubt it.  Dance is a small, specialist niche.  At one time, although small, it was possible to do well because there were very few bloggers/article writers.  Now, every dance teacher on the planet is busy blogging/vlogging/selling costumes etc.
            
            I always hoped they would create a site for The Arts, which could include both Performing Arts and  Visual Arts.   Feltmagnet has such great craft content and could do so much better if it didn't have other types of art on it.

               You should try making a suggestion, they may not do it right now, but it may go onto their list of things to do.

                  I'm not sure if you remember, but it was one of the ideas vigorously championed by several Hubbers when the niche sites were being created but it fell on deaf ears then.  It doesn't really worry me as I'm only using HubPages for fun now, I don't expect to make anything from it.

                     Yup, I do remember that. I would expect that they would see the reason now that they see the stats of these sites compared to the others.

                  A long and varied list at this stage. I've been asking for simple things related to table modules and they still haven't happened. I guess they've got more important things to worry about.
