Formal training and/or employment as internet marketer - How To

   Hi,
   
   I have been looking up and down and around the internet and am confident I know enough to get started making money but with all the off line issues and time needed to get a start I was wondering if anyone here on hubpages knows of or is employed in internet marketing.
   
   Is there are market for such a role as an employee, if so, is it hard to obtain and would you need formal training?
   
   Any ideas?

      Check out Elance and other freelancing websites. Don't need any qualifications really just examples of work to show.

      There is definitely a corporate market for people who have internet marketing skills but don't expect to land one of those jobs without a degree in marketing or any type of track record showing that you can get the results that a company is looking for.
      
      Like many have said here, your best bet without a degree is to work your own magic for your own benefit then try the freelance route.  I can tell you that adsense is just a tiny piece of the pie for internet marketers.
      
      The largest piece of pie is had by those that enter Pay-Per-Click campaigns.  That's right, you have to shell out some cash in programs like Google's Adwords to pay for advertising.  Learning to use Adwords can be costly too, so be prepared to invest a couple thousand dollars on a PPC campaign.  But before you do, make sure all your ducks are in a row and have a niche that is worth the trouble.

      I think you might need to go down a more formal route.  You might need to go to college and do the paper exercise (certificates etc) and start at a low level job - success takes time and it is better to know that bit more than the job requires.

   There are many opportunities to link to marketers.
   Email me at some time with your specs and I'll forward you some links.
   However; you are always going to be better off FreeLancing.
   You are also able to study for relevant degrees, online. (24 mths)

   thats really no less than I expected, I know its not simple but was wondering about peoples thoughts,
   
   I have looked at a traditional degree at SAE in webdesign,
   
   fast tracked to 2 year degree.  Wasn't really thinking I could just jump into a job right now.  Kind of brainstorming at the moment, which direction to take and not waste too much time.
   
   What worries me about the web design school is relevance to marketing but obviously I need to take that up with the college.

   There are tons of internet marketing jobs out there and it's only growing.  University of San Francisco has a Masters Certificate in Internet Marketing that I've been looking into getting.  They don't have any educational perquisites, so if you don't have a college degree, you can still work there.
   
   Most people with full time internet marketing positions are on the Adwords side as opposed to the Adsense side.  That means they buy internet advertising more than they sell it.  Does that make sense?

    For some learning experience and credit, have you considered volunteering with nonprofits in the area of online fundraising. Many nonprofits are taking their fundraising efforts online. Do you have experience in online marketing? Perhaps, you can offer them your services. Volunteer match has a search for online volunteer opportunities. Web service volunteers are frequently requested.
