Has anyone ever gotten money from Amazon for products that they didn't put on their hubs? I'm confused about how that could happen.
Yes, and how that happens is not confusing at all if you understand how the Amazon site works.
If someone clicks through one of your links, and has your affiliate ID assigned to their actions, then whatever they might order during the activity period (an order must actually ship and not get returned for you to see $$) will be credited to you.
This thing actually happened to me yesterday.
Just to add to what Relache said:
(directly from the Amazon Associates operating Agreement)
People buy all sorts of crazy things. It just goes to show that sending heaps of clicks can pay off in the long run, even if they don't buy a product you linked to.
I remember around Christmas a few lucky hubbers sent readers to Amazon who seemed to do all of their Christmas shopping then and there.
Didn't someone once sell a massive leg of Ham?
That would be fanstastic to hit it just right as someone does all of the Christmas shopping! Haven't heard the ham one before....haha. But, I have seen people randomly sell expensive jewelry and super-expensive TV's before and get a nice cut of that couple thousand.
While I have usually only sold products I have linked to before, the same is not true this month. With the exception of about 2 orders, I have sold a decent amount of random things. Essentially, you are right when it comes to traffic. As long as traffic is being generated by the links we have a chance to makes some sales - whether they happen to buy what we wrote about or not.
I have lots of referrals and I also get lucky and succeed sales through their Hubs.
Thanks for the info! I didn't really understand how Amazon affiliates worked, and I thought I'd inadvertantly "tricked" them somehow.
I have made quite a few such sales. Very good news when it happens. Unfortuantely I am yet to get anyone buy a really expensive item or Christmas shopping but here's hoping!
I had someone pop over to amazon through one of my historical books (which they returned) and spend over $400 on other books - seemed (from their selection) as though they were a college student. Love it when that happens.

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I don’t quite understand the earnings program. My Ad Program, eBay Program and Amazon Program are all active. My question is about the Amazon Program. Do I earn on this program by the Amazon ads that I’ve added to my hubs? I...

I don't suppose I'm the only person wondering what happens if the machinations - automated or otherwise - lead to HubPages having a much REDUCED income stream from Amazon.Make no mistake - as Google Adsense income dives (which it has been doing consistently for months) - income from Amazon modules...

But I am still asking. How much do you earn with amazon?I have placed amazon ads on one of my old websites. There was an Adsense ad unit on it which did not perform well last month at all, so replaced it with amazon. I understand I should wait a few weeks and see how it performs, but I will like to...

My most recently snipped hub is about a specific product that is not readily available in stores. It used to have an amazon capsule, but that was deleted courtesy of HubPro a while back. Made no sense to me at the time because I've had multiple sales through amazon for that product, but I didn't...

The "I can't move or talk" nightmare, what does it mean?Have you ever had the nightmare where something or someone is holding you down and no matter how hard you try, you cannot move, and when you try to scream for help nothing comes out? Believe it or not this is a very typical...
