7 Super Summer Suggestions for Siblings

Updated on August 18, 2014

Summer Fun for Everyone

7 Super Summer Suggestions for Siblings!

Wow, that's a mouthful! Why did I pick this for my topic and title? Simple, I've experienced the summer 7's - I'm one of 7 siblings, and each summer my parents had to be creative trying to come up with different fun suggestions for the family. Believe me, it was challenging at times, but somehow we all got through the summer with fun.

Take a look at some of the things we did to have a super summer with our siblings.

Go to the Children's Park and Meet New Friends this Summer

1 One of the most fun things my family and I like to do is make new friends. Going to a local park is a great way to meet people from your neighborhood. It's also a good way to give parents a break. Once a week trade off with other parents in taking the kids to the park. This way all the children get to play outdoors and socialize away from home. Besides, even the kids need some time away from their parents once in a while.

Summer Siblings Picnic in the Park or Backyard

2 There are times when it just isn't possible to get away, and that's when a parent really needs to be creative in their activities with the children. It was fun to eat outdoors with friends and family, but sometimes there wasn't anyone else around except our family. During those times I liked to plan a picnic with all the things my nephews liked to eat. I can even remember having a big picnic in our livingroom one day when it was raining. For me, it was one of the most fun picnics we ever had.

Go Camping & Bring A Friend

3 As with most large families, camping is something we did a lot of during my childhood. I can't tell you how many places we went camping actually, but it was a lot. There were so many things to do all day from swimming, mini golf, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing to singing around the campfire late at night. Most of the time we camped with other families (I suppose this was to keep my parents company while we were all off during the day). It is no wonder that my parents ended up owning a campground of their own in later years. (That's their campground in Tennessee in the photo.)

Over the years the family thinned out as we all grew, and my younger siblings were able to bring along some friends to fill out the tribe.

Go all the way and have fountain sodas, sundaes or even hot dogs and ice cream. Bring along the camera to be sure you capture the fun and family event. You'll be glad you did.

Summer Treehouse Building for the Family

6 Most kids that I know have always dreamed of having a treehouse of their own. When I was around 9 years old we lived in a place that had a big barn. Even though it had a hayloft you could look out of from the top of the barn, it still wasn't a tree house.

Here are a few tree house plans that you could do with your family over the summer.

Just think of all the time they'll be playing in it and not be in the house watching tv or on the computer. It's a great place for kids to gather and bring back imagination into playtime.

      Swimming Fun for Everyone

7 I was blessed to grow up on the East Coast where there were a lot of bodies of water. We could go swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, a bay, lake, creek or large pond. There was water in every direction you went.Sometimes when we were camping there was the option of going skiing in the lakes or swim in the campground pools. I preferred the pools (and not the mucky waters in some of the lakes). No matter where we chose to swim, there was an opportunity for fun whether it was riding on someone's shoulders or dunking a person underwater.

Pick your "pond" and have some fun in the water with your family this summer. Be sure to wear the proper clothing, suncreen and hat. Carry bottled water with you too.

I can't imagine growing up with as many siblings as you did. I have just one brother, who is nearly 10 years my elder, so we weren't exactly playmates.

Swimming was always my favorite summer activity. I guess it still is.

Very nicely done, I'll have to make some of these suggestions to my kids - 10 weeks of summer holiday left for them! I love the homemade ice cream idea :)

I have to say that you and your siblings knew how to create summer fun and now you are sharing it with everyone! Right now I feel like having some ice cream, going swimming, maybe a trip to the park after spending some time in the treehouse, camping in my tent with a friend and having a picnic....and coloring everything I do to keep the memories! That duck is so darned cute!

These are really great ideas for summer fun with family. My oldest brother has a huge paintball park that he hosts many family parties for us. It is gorgeous. This looks like another award winning lens to me. Beautiful job. The coloring pages are great too.
