Black Ops Tips: How To Rack Up Kills and Improve Your K/D Ratio!

Updated on September 29, 2012

Whether you are new or experienced in Call of Duty: Black Ops, it's obvious that you know that within the game, you are open to a variety of killstreaks for you to utilise at your disposal. However the most commonly asked question is which killstreaks are best for you, according to your play-style and want for ultimate destruction.

Whilst I do believe the combinations that I'm going to show you are the best you can to choose from, feel free to customise your own combinations based on what works the best for you. These are after all, only my own personal recommendations.

Black Ops Run and Gunners.

For those of us who prefer to play Black Ops in a 'run and gun' type of play-style, you will not want to use killstreaks which take massive amount of kills to obtain. Such killstreaks as the chopper gunner, which requires 9 consecutive kills, or the black bird, which requires 8 consequative kills, would not be recommended, as you are highly likely to die before you even get half way there.

However, other killstreaks like the care package, napalm strike or even the RC XD are much wiser choices for your set-up, as these take a significantly less amount of kills to use. Especially, if you choose to use the ‘Hardline’ perk, which as you know reduces the amount of kills needed for a killstreak.

Here is what I would personally recommend for anyone who prefers to play as a 'Run and Gunner':

  • RC XD - A small toy car strapped with explosives that you can both control and detonate once you are in the appropriate radius of the enemy.
  • Napalm Strike - Call in an aeroplane full of explosive napalm, to drop its contents on a specific part of the map.
  • Attack Helicopter - Choose a location of the map for your attack chopper to hover over, and neutralise enemies as they appear.

This set-up is great for run and gunners, as you will not need any more than 7 consecutive kills to be able to use all of the killstreaks. However, for players who don't want to have to spend time stood in one place whilst controlling the RC XD, you can choose the spy plane as a great alternative.

Black Ops Snipers.

For the players who prefer to take out their enemies over a longer distance, the killstreaks that they should use are more or less dependent on their overall sniping ability, as well as what kind of sniper they are trying to be.

For instance, if someone is attempting to be a sniper with a more stealthy approach, they can go for much higher killstreaks as they are not likely to get noticed. Although, for other snipers who are trying to get their kills quickly and less silently, a much lower combination of killstreaks would be a better option.

For Stealthy Snipers:

  • Attack Helicopter - Call in a helicopter to hover over an area of the map, and take out enemies as they appear.
  • Black Bird - Show the position of your enemies on the UAV, without the issue of your killstreak being shot down.
  • Attack Dogs - Call in a troop of attack dogs, which will spread out across the map and take out your enemies.

For normal Snipers:

  • Spy Plane - Show the position of the enemies on the UAV.
  • Counter Spy Plane - Blank your enemies visual of the UAV. .
  • Napalm Strike - Call in a plane full of explosive napalm, to drop its contents on a specific part of the map.

Black Ops Objective Based Player.

As an objective based player, your main aim is to get the maximum amount of points possible so that you successfully dominate the opposing team. Your recommended set of killstreaks will vary based on which 'objective game mode' you have chosen, but for the most part the combinations are rather similar.

Yet, if you think that another set of killstreaks would apply better to another game mode, feel free to experiment as you desire. Remember that I am in no way a dictator of how you play Black Ops or what you use in-game.

Domination:

  • Napalm Strike - Call in an aeroplane full of explosive napalm, to drop its contents on a specific part of the map
  • Attack Helicopter - Call in a helicopter to hover over an area of the map, and take out enemies as they appear.
  • Chopper gunner - Man the side arms of a gunship, whilst having all enemies shown up in red.

Search and Destroy:

  • Spy Plane - Show the position of the enemies on the UAV.
  • Counter Spy plane - Blank your enemies visual of the UAV.
  • Napalm Strike - Call in an aeroplane full of explosive napalm, to drop its contents on a specific part of the map.

Demolition:

  • Napalm Strike - Call in an aeroplane full of explosive napalm, to drop its contents on a specific part of the map.
  • Attack Helicopter - Call in a helicopter to hover over an area of the map, and take out enemies as they appear.
  • Chopper Gunner / Gunship. - Man the side arms of a gunship, whilst having all enemies shown up in red.

Ground war:

  • Mortar Team - Choose the location on the map for a heavy strike of mortar bombs to be fired.
  • Black Bird - Show the position of your enemies on the UAV, without the issue of your killstreak being shot down.
  • Chopper Gunner - Man the side arms of a gunship, whilst having all enemies shown up in red.

Headquarters:

  • Spy Plane - Show the position of the enemies on the UAV.
  • Sentry Gun - Call in a care package with a sentry gun, which you can place anywhere within the map.
  • Attack Helicopter - Call in a helicopter to hover over an area of the map, and take out enemies as they appear.

Sabotage:

  • Spy Plane - Show the position of the enemies on the UAV.
