Call of Duty Black Ops 2 How to set up a Run and Gun Class ( BO2 )

Updated on January 14, 2013

In this guide I will simply teach you how to set your classes up so that you can have a standard run and gun class that will apply to most game modes. This class will include a few different options, but overall will talk about the best ways to set your classes up in order to be the most successful as possible.

If you like what you see I will be posting many other guides for other class set ups, along with all the game modes, zombie guides, and many other things. First off you can follow me on twitter @Johnrr631992 or .

Also you can click on my profile at the top to see the rest of the guides I have posted, as well as check back to see new ones I will be posting.

Also I am on Xbox as MKS JohnR . Or you can comment below at the bottom to let me know what you think of the game, or of the guide, or to let me know what you like overall. Thanks.

ALSO!!! - I am starting a new clan. If you are reading this feel free to message me on Xbox Live, or on Twitter. As of now I am only open to people on Xbox, but will be moving multi-platform in December/January. So please feel free to contact me with questions. Also I will have a Website specifically for the clan, and it will be pretty big.

What is this kind of class

A run and gun class features a set up that allows you to run around the map, not camp, and allows you to maximize the kills on any specific map with ease. This will allow you to successfully kill enemies, and get your score streaks time and time again. Your goal here is that you want to move enough so the enemy will never know your position, and at the same time, you can continue to flank them and get the kills needed to either bring your team to victory or assist them so they can win the game.

The Guns

There is only one really effective gun class for Run and Gun playing. That is the sub machine gun. While some will argue in the comments about the use of shotguns. The sub machine guns are really what is preferred by most, and most people use when they are doing a run and gun strategy. So with that being said I like the Scorpion. I unlocked that at my first prestige, and use that weapon whenever I am doing a run and gun scenario. I think it is extremely effective, and relatively easy to use.

The Perks

When you are choosing perks, there are some that will make using a run and gun method extremely effective. This will allow you to have the most success when you are going to try this method, and will allow you to hopefully get lucky enough to pull off those score streaks time and time again.

Perk 1. Lightweight. This is a must. Being able to outrun opponents, or being able to run faster than your teammates, or being able to move quickly is so effective in a run and gun class. I think this is a MUST for perk 1, and I would not honestly suggest anything else with this.

Perk 2. Here you have a little choice. If you are moving quick enough you do not need cold blooded. Lets face it, even with a UAV, by the time an enemy goes to the location of your dot, you are 20 feet away.. So I would say either Fast Hands to allow that sleight of hand reload, very effective on the Scorpion, and will allow you for more kills. OR Toughness. Toughness will be good in case you do get hit to reduce that flinch and allow you to have better accuracy for taking the enemy out.

Perk 3. Dexterity first off will allow mantling objects much easier. This is effective overall so that you can move around quicker, but with lightweight this is not a must. The must have I think from here is extreme conditioning. I mean you are doing a running class so being able to run for longer distances will greatly increase your chances of being much more successful in the long run. I think this is a must for you to be extremely successful in the game.

I would honestly suggest not using this. The secondary weapons are not effective, and not to mention you are trying to use your primary. Also no need really for rockets on a run and gun class. So I would say cancel this out, and maybe add a second attachment onto your gun, or add another EMP grenade.

Weapon Attachments

As far as weapon attachments go, I would suggest using laser sight, and a red dot. this will overall increase the accuracy DRASTICALLY on your gun, and allow you to get a more accurate spread of fire, when you are trying to kill you enemy opponents. This is something that I truly suggest, and use on all my run and gun classes.

The best equipment for this class setup is EMP grenades, and semtex grenades. These will both allow for instant kills, and allow you to get points even if you die with an emp grenade effective the enemy player.

So there is a summary of what you should look for when you are trying to create your run and gun class of call of duty black ops 2. This guide can be applied to all game modes, hardcore, and core, and will allow you to have the most success when trying to attempt a run and gun class setup. Thanks.

One little thing to think about: if you're using an SMG, consider putting the adjustable stock on it. Yes, I do realize you're going to be running and running, but when you run out of sprint, moving while ADS with an adjustable stock on an SMG is a bit faster than walking normally.

Yes I have tried the adjustable stock, but to be honest, I use quick draw a lot more than adjustable stock just to have that edge when coming off a run if I need to hip fire..

Well, you could just take lightweight, extreme conditioning, (perk 3 greed) dexterity, quickdraw grip, and adjustable stock. Fastest of all movement types, and fastest ADS time too. I have found that in a lot of situations, an SMG's hipfire is accurate enough too be effective around, I dunno, most of the way down the walkway on the side of Hijacked? Then if you use a laser sight (primary gunfighter), you can pretty much shoot at any range on Hijacked and expect a couple of hits.

I only found out that little factoid for the adjustable stock because of Drift0r's BO2 in-depth videos. Lots of good info. (Did you know the SMR can kill in 2 shots at any range (requires at least one shot to the head at distances more than 38 meters)?)

That actually doesn't surprise me.. The SMR is a very powerful gun, although I am personally not really a fan of it.

I'm usually not a big fan of semi-auto and burst weapons other than snipers, CoD4's M16, and (now) the R870 shotgun. I'll probably use the SWAT, SMR, and FAL (maybe the M8A1 too) as primarily hardcore mode weapons. Using a mouse can make it a bit difficult to spam semi-auto weapons accurately at range... (Unfortunately, I'm rather good at ranged shooting and spamming. Just not usually at the same time.)

The M8A1 is a very useful and good weapon if you can get the select fire on the gun.. It makes the gun much easier to use, and much more useful.

NOT Fair, but good 2 c strategies ,thank you

I have to say, I just tried the M8A1 for the first time today, and I love it! It almost feels like the CoD4 M16!!! My first target died on the first burst, and the second target (quite further away and behind cover) died in 2 bursts. I got fuzzy feelings from that. :D

HAhA yes I really like the m8a1.. I think it is a very fun weapon to use. Although I really, REALLY like it with the select fire, then it becomes like the BO Commando/ older M4 from earlier games..

I have a bit of constructive criticism for the author. No offence is meant by any of this. Just clearing up a few errors in the guide. This is a bit of long read but I urge anyone reading this to read on.

Fast Hands is not the same as Sleight of Hand as it does not decrease reload times, Fast Mags however does decrease reload times. Fast Hands makes you swap weapons faster, throw equipment faster and throw back frags safely. So you don't really need this for a run and gun class, especially if your only running one weapon.

You said this: "If you are moving quick enough you do not need cold blooded. Lets face it, even with a UAV, by the time an enemy goes to the location of your dot, you are 20 feet away.." --- Ghost is the one that keeps you off radar. Cold Blooded makes the player not appear on Dual Bands, Target Finders, Sensor Grenades, MMS, and player controlled aircraft. It also prevents the red name and cross-hairs from appearing on an enemy's screen when they are targeting the user.

You left out the most important part of Dexterity, which is that it allows you to aim faster after sprinting, both hipfire and ADS.

You also mention in a comment that you use Quickdraw to "have that edge when coming off a run if I need to hip fire.." Quickdraw does not let you fire faster after a run and has nothing to do with hipfiring. Like I said above that is what Dexterity does. What Quickdraw does is allow you to ADS faster, but without Dexterity you will still have a delay after sprinting before your weapon is ready to ADS.

Also your video has almost an entirely different class setup???

I must disagree with your opinion on Secondary Weapons, the Five seveN, Tac .45 and the B23R are actually extremely good guns up to medium range.

Might as well share my run & gun setup for anyone that wants to know.

Whatever I'm in the mood for, generally PDW or MSMC.

      Quickdraw (Faster aiming)

      Fast Mags (Faster reload)

      Laser Sight (Better hipfire)

      Flak Jacket (Grenade protection)

      Toughness (Reduces flinching when shot)

      Dexterity (Faster aiming after sprinting)

1 Frag (More versitile than semtex)

      1 Concussion or Flash

If I'm using the Scorpion I trade Quickdraw for Scavenger, as it burns through ammo.

My favorite Skorpion setup (geared towards TDM and KC gametypes):

Primary: Skorpion (Laser, extended clip, rapid fire)

      Secondary: (no secondary)

Perk 1: Lightweight (pretty much a given for an SMG class)

Perk 2: Scavenger (considering the RoF...)

Perk 3: Dexterity (well, this is more of your choice)

      Lethal: Semtex (your choice, again)

Tactical: Flash grenade (again, your choice)

      Wildcards: Primary gunfighter

I like the ammo count and the RoF is so much fun (just make sure to use bursts at longer ranges). I mean, who DOESN'T like spraying a gun at 1880 rounds per minute?

I love rapid fire on the skorpion.. HAHA it makes the gun so crazy, that it is unstoppable in the right hands.. I always have a Skorpion class set up, which sometimes gets replaced by the peacekeeper, but typically always have some sort of Skorpion class set up.

LOL. I actually usually prefer the MP7 and the Vector as far as SMGs go. Nice, clean iron sights (sure, the MSMC has 'clean' iron sights, but I don't like how they feel), controllable recoil (*cough* Skorpion *cough* rapid fire *cough*), and fully auto (screw you Chicom. . .).

In fact, one of my friends has used this Vector class (well something similar to this) to get several Nuclear medals:

      Vector - Extended Clip, Suppressor

      (no secondary, I think)

      Hardline, Lightweight

      Dexterity (I think?)

Tactical Equipment (I don't remember what he said. . .)

      Perk 1 Greed

I'll try double-checking the class later.

In any case, if I'm using Rapid Fire on an SMG, I'll pretty much always run Extended Clip and/or Laser Sight.

You truly need extended clip on some of the sub machine guns when using them with rapid fire.. I mean I also highly suggest scavenger because it is SOOO easy to run out of ammo, and you literally get about 5 kills even on hardcore before you need more ammo, SO i always have scavenger now on my sub machine gun classes.

Definitely agree with you on scavenger, I just *usually* prefer fast mags because I hate waiting on a reload, and my luck almost always has me needing to reload while under fire and NOT in cover. Usually holds true, even if I'm using extended clip. I REALLY hate how often that happens...

Warman are you on XBox? And yah I have noticed that a LOT recently when I have been playing that I constantly am getting caught up in bad situations when having to reload..

Uhh... I don't see anyone named "Warman"... If you were asking me (DYAC, lol), I don't. I pretty much play FPS (and a couple other types of games) exclusively on the PC.

WOW for the first time I wrote a comment on the wrong guide.. OR I deleted his comment.. I feel.. quite dumb haha.. Warman had commented on a couple of my guides, but now I don't know which ones..
