Fancy Dress Costumes: How To Make Your Own Red Mist (From Kick-Ass) Costume From Home

Updated on November 11, 2011

Make Your Own Red Mist Costume!

Kick-Ass was the superhero movie of 2010. Excelling in the box office, it not only left a mark for its interesting story line and fight scenes, but also for the crazy costumes. Red Mist was one of the newly created superhero's that features in the film.

With Red Mist's intriguing allure and geek/bad boy persona, this is a great idea for a costume. Whether it is for Halloween, a birthday party or just for fun; you can make your own Red Mist costume for a small price and little effort.

Do you like to dress up for special occasions? Why not check out these other ideas!

The Leathers

First of all, you're gonna need some leathers. Red Mist was known to wear black and red patterned leathers, so you should try to recreate this look as convincingly as possible. Here are some options:

1. Get some leather trousers and a leather top.

Be sure to find a long sleeved top and some leather trousers. You can buy these online or at local clothes shops.

2. Get a leather biker suit.

It may be pricey, but have a shop around. A wet suit or scuba suit may also work.

3. Any material black clothing.

Alternatively, if you cannot find leathers anywhere, just use some basic black trousers and a top.

(Tip: For all of these options you will need to recreate the red patterns that Red Mist has on his outfit. This can be done with paint or sewing on some red fabric.)

The Mask & Cape

The look would not be the same without the superhero essentials, a cape and a mask. Keeping your identity that little bit hidden is possible with a mask, and this is just what Red Mist did to stop others from knowing his true identity. You can get a mask and cape by:

1. Buying them online.

The Internet is full of bargains so it is possible to pick the two items up at a small price.

2. Buy them at a fancy dress store.

Fancy dress stores specialise in costumes, so you could get an uncanny resemblance to Red Mist's mask and cape at these places!

3. Make your own.

Get a bin liner or some sort of black fabric to drape over your shoulders as a cape. Use some cardboard to cut out a mask shape and paint it black. Put some elastic through each sides to attach to the face.

The Gloves

Red Mist is seen wearing a pair of gloves, revealing very little skin. So get yourself a pair, it won't break the bank. You can do this by:

1. Seeing if you already own a pair.

Look around your house, you might find that you already own a pair! This is a way to avoid spending any unneccesary money.

2. Buying a pair.

Look online or in fancy dress shops for a bargain buy.

The Hair

You can't forget about the funky hair! There's a number of ways to recreate Red Mist's red and black style.

1. Dying your hair.

It is possible to get a non-permanent hair dye in both black and red. These can be applied to the hair and washed out when you want to remove the colour.

2. Buying a wig.

Many places online and fancy dress stores will stock all sorts of wigs, so have a look about and try to find a 'Red Mist' wig!

The Boots

You'll need some sort of footwear to complete this look. Red Mist wore black boots with his superhero look.

1. Buy a pair of black shoes.

Whether you find boots or plain shoes, any should look good with the outfit.

2. Use a pair of your own shoes.

You probably own a pair of black shoes already, so if you do and they look okay to wear, use them!

Don't forget the Mistmobile!

Red Mist's prized posession was his Mistmobile, but it would probably break the bank to buy one of these, so you might want to leave this one out!

But by now you should have or should be able to create your very own Red Mist costume!

If you're a little lazy and would rather buy one, here's some websites to check out:
