Ghost of Tsushima Coming on July 17
Background
Ghost of Tsushima developed by Sucker Punch Productions is coming on July 17. It is the longest and most awaited game produced by Sucker Punch Productions. Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game with long inclusive story line and next-gen graphics. The studio has managed to bring every smallest possible detail in the game. Game's plot has been set in the Japan during the period of Mongolian invasion on japan. The story takes place in the late 13th century with our character being the great samurai named Jin Sakai who will protect the land of Tsushima from the invaders.
The game has immensely beautiful graphics with cutting edge sharp details. Many different modes are also made available to you in the game. You can also play the game in Black & White mode with grain filter. This is newly added and as the game's plot is in the medieval time the filter really suites the game.
Game is directed by Nate Fox who has also directed Infamous First Light. The team who worked for the Ghost of Tsushima is the same team worked for Infamous First Light. The game was releasing on 26th June but due to coronovirus pandemic the date got shifted to 17th July. Studio also said that there will be four editions of the game as:
- Standard
- Digital Deluxe
- Special
- Collecter's edition
Each of the editions include different skill sets, items, weapons, equipment's and unlocked abilities. The game is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4.
Plot
Ghost of Tsushima is set on the Tsushima island in the year of 1274. We will play a character named Jin Sakai one of the samurai left in his clan. Our island is attacked by Mongolian invaders and we need to save our island from their invasion. Jin Sakai know that by using guerilla warfare and battling with them with dishonor is the only way to wipe the forces out. Story follows the invasion of Jin Sakai to end those forces and preventing the Mongolian invasion on his island and main land Japan. For removing such a big army Jin Sakai has to learn the skill of Ghost and try to remove the Mongolians by fear and turning them on each other.
Gameplay
Outline:
Ghost of Tsushima is an action stealthy game with a lot a great features which will take you back to the 13th century japan. The game is played in the third person perspective. The game consist of large open world area for players to explore. There are no markers or small map showing in the game you have to use a guiding wind option which will lead you to direction of different places. You can also follow birds and foxes they will also lead you to the objectives in the game. It will take a while to roam in the open world on foot but you will have a horse for travelling to different places. The creators of the game tried to make the game's world more realistic and is way big to explore for players.
The Tsushima's island consists of different villages, regional fields, shrines, forests, farms and snowy mountains. The regions which are difficult to reach by horse you can use a grappling hook to make your way forward. Game's director Nate Fox also said that "We tried to bring 1274 japan for their players but they did not build Tsushima stone by stone, they added some historical figures but their are some fictional depiction too. We have asked people who have knowledge about old cultures they suggested us not to show every historical depiction as this may be insensitive".
Players have two different styles to utilize they are Samurai and Ghost basically Samurai consist of hard on combat where players can directly attack on enemies while Ghost consist of stealthy kills where players can attack from behind or killing them by distracting. Ultimately you have to use the mixture of close combat and stealth to make your way faster in the game.
Characters:
The main protagonist of the game is Jin Sakai the character players will get to play. There will be another female companion named Masako. The main antagonist of the game is Mongolian cheif named general Khotun Khan. There are several other characters which we will get to meet in various points of the game. There also will be Onibaba high priestess and the monk named Ippei.
Character Customization:
Many different cosmetics and armor sets are available for customizing your character. Hakama, Camp hats, Samurai armor and masks can be collected. Armor gives you different mechanical advantages and will increase your strength from different attacks from enemies.
Combats:
Players will have great samurai skills where they can slash enemies by stealth attack. Many different abilities are available for players to perform special attacks and death blows. There is also resolve represented by yellow circles in the bottom left corner of the screen which can be used to deal lethal strikes and heal Jin. You can also pull up Bow to attack enemies from range.
Duels:
You can challenge enemies to duels an option for standoff will emerge against any foe. The fight will happen in most cinematic way and will depend on your skill and mindset of your foe. Throughout the game various swordsmen experts will challenge you. You need to be very focused and perfect slashes will only lead you to victory.
Stealth Tactics & Techniques:
For the people choosing ghost path will have variety of tools to use. There are Kunai and bombs including smoke bombs which you can throw. You can also toss an item like firecrackers to create distraction. Assassinations are given but you can change it to kill multiple enemies. Jin is also capable to striking fear into his enemies promoting them to fall to the ground and then killing them an accept their deaths.
Techniques are the skills that our character Jin will learn and technique points will be used to upgrade them. Studio has not shown the technique menu but said that the new techniques Jin will learn can evolve using the points. There will be alternate paths for these techniques to evolve and will work more efficiently and differently.
Game Length & Storage Space
Sucker Punch Productions indirectly mentioned Ghost of Tsushima it's biggest game by landslide. The creative director of the game also mentioned that the game is lot bigger than the Infamous Second Son the studios last game with regard to the world size and content. The main story will not take too much time but mixing the side missions will approximately extend the playtime about 35 to 40 hours.
The game size is listed as requiring minimum of 50 gigabytes space despite having such a enormous world size and great graphics. The future updates may add to the overall size of the game but still it is manageable by current generation standards.
Photo Mode
Ghost of Tsushima will have a photo mode where you can adjust options like camera position, Jin's expression, color grading, etc. You can also change wind speed and direction to make your photo look more dynamic. There is also an option to choose the particles in the image like yellow leaves, bamboo leaves, orange leaves, etc that are present in the image. Ghost of Tsushima also offers you to change the background music and highlights to capture a video.
