Top 3 Zombie Shooter Video Games for Fans of The Living Dead!

Updated on July 16, 2017

Let's Go on a Zombie Killing Spree!

Whether you love to watch zombie movies like "Night of the Living Dead" and "Automaton Transfusion", or you enjoy the puzzling action and suspense of a good survival horror on your favorite video game console, the chance you would fall in love with a video game featuring the lovable living dead is a good one!

Everyone loves a good gaming session on their favorite platform, whether it be a gaming PC, Xbox One, PS4 or Nintendo Wii. If you love killing zombies, chances are you will love these zombie slashers and post apocalyptic video game playgrounds!

Most of them you can get on any gaming console, although some of them are console exclusive. The other problem with finding these games is that your local game store may not carry them at all. Even though gaming chains like Game Stop and big box stores may carry a good selection, sometimes searching online and visiting the local pawn shops and thrift stores will open a better opportunity for finding rare titles.

1. Call of Duty Zombies (Black Ops I, II, & III)

Game developer's, Treyarch, hit big with the Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies series! Originally designed as an Easter Egg reward for completing the campaign story mode in Call of Duty: World at War, these games quickly became a fan favorite, inspiring Treyarch to create new maps to be included in their D.L.C. map packs and eventually into the new series of Call of Duty: Black Ops I, II, & III.

A vast story-line unfolds each time a new Call of Duty Zombies map becomes available, all revolving around the main characters quest to set things right in the past. Players learn the story by locating secret radio transmissions, deciphering secret codes hidden on blood scrawled walls, and completing the Main Mega Easter Egg quests designed to deceive by the developers at Treyarch Studios.

The game mode became so popular with fans, that PC players were given a Custom Map making program, allowing them to design their very own maps using the software and program files from Call of Duty: World at War Zombies. The Custom Zombies maps were so popular as well that Treyarch started to use the custom creator's ideas, incorporating them into future D.L.C. maps and inspiring them to put forth new software for the epic Call of Duty: Black Ops III, taking map creation into the next generation of high definition gaming!

Playing with up to 4 people in online multiplayer, or by yourself, the never ending hordes of living dead just keep coming round after round and can be fought off with many of the high-powered weapons and the special Wonder Weapons that this series has to offer as well. Full of Easter Eggs, Hollywood cameos, and surprises; the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies franchise is my all-time favorite zombie slaughtering experience!

2. Get Whacky in the the "Dead Rising" Series by Capcom

The "Dead Rising" series by Capcom, (Dead Rising 1-4) gives video game fans just what they always wanted...supreme gore and zombie brain bashing action! Very reminiscent of the old horror comedy "Dead Alive", this game series places fans deep into the abyss of zombie hordes and gets creative, allowing players to use just about anything to kill a zombie.

"Dead Rising" also allows players to customize their character with goofy outfits, from tutu's, to tuxedo's, as well as being able to craft super-silly weapons of mass zombie destruction, like Electric Rake and The Ripper! When it comes time to the boss fights, your'e definitely going to want to stock up on heavy weaponry and most "Dead Rising" missions are timed, so you have to complete the boss fights and save survivors in a limited amount of time or it's game over!

The action is intense and the characters are very funny. The zombies are gross, gory, and plentiful. The weapons are ridiculous and unforgiving. What's not to love about the "Dead Rising" series?

3. Under the Umbrella of the "Resident Evil" Franchise

"Resident Evil" made its debut on the original PlayStation console in 1996. Survival horror games may just have gotten their fame from this breakthrough title. A challenging, dark, adventure into the twisted shadows of a mansion in Raccoon City, where we met our first main characters, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from Raccoon City's own S.T.A.R.S. special unit.

The "Resident Evil" franchise has come a long way since those days. There's eight main game titles in the series including "Resident Evil Zero" ( a prequel to the Raccoon City Mansion story) as well as a few games that fill in the gaps between the main titles, like "Resident Evil: Biohazard", "Operation Raccoon City" and "Code: Veronica".

All through these survivor horror masterpieces, players try and survive the Umbrella Corporation's manufactured T-Virus (the cause of the zombie outbreak), solving puzzles and gathering clues to find an escape from the zombie apocalypse and take down the evil enemies of Umbrella Corp. This game series takes on a new look at zombie infection, seemingly, like a parasitic virus that mutates the host into a alien like zombie.

What Is the Best Zombie Game Ever in Your Opinion?

These games are only a handful of the many games in the zombie and horror genres. There have been hundreds or more games revolving around the zombie apocalypse, and zombies in general.

Whether they were great starter games from back in the day like "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" or newer open world titles like "H1Z1", there's just something about bashing biter's that makes people exhilarated!

So, I want to know from all you readers out there, what is your favorite game to slaughter the living dead in? Let your voice be heard down in the comment section below!
