Top 10 DS games for boys

Updated on December 2, 2015

There are many great DS games available both for younger and older boys. It was difficult to pick just for the top 10 DS games for boys list. The list is in no specific order, because it's just impossible to say the one is better than the other. It really depends on the preferences of the boy, who is going to play the game.

Scribblenauts

The Scribblenauts earned it's spot by being the game which best challenges a boy's creativity. In Scribblenauts, you have access to thousands of items that can be summoned using the in-game keyboard. Your goal is to use your creativity and vocabulary to solve the puzzles in whatever manner you are able to imagine.

Items include musical instruments, prehistoric animals, vehicles, cooking utensils. it's great fun to put these items on the screen and see how they interact with each other.

The game has 200 levels which are split into 2 types: action and puzzle levels.

All in all this game is great fun.

Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story

When it comes to pure fun gaming, not many do it better than Mario and Luigi. The newest Mario and Luigi release is an action role-playing game for the Nintendo DS. This time around players will be able to play parts of the game as Mario's longtime nemesis, Bowser.

The game is full of varied and superb game play, a colorful and crisp art style, impressive character animation, and some excellent audio design that's perfectly for this cheesy humorous game.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

In my opinion what the DS does better than any other console is, brain teasing puzzle games and this is one of the best puzzle games ever.

The graphics, music and looks of the game are all great. There are also a number of very well done cut scenes.

The puzzles, which are around every corner in the game, are great fun. I found some more difficult than others, but I was able to solve them for the most part. Solving the puzzles give you hint coins which come in very handy later in the game.

Lego Indiana Jones 2

The Adventure Continues combines the fun of LEGO with the daring and non-stop action of one of cinema's most loved heroes.

The best part of the game is that you can act out all of the most memorable scenes from all the Indiana Jones movies.

Once you have played through all the levels you can construct your own Lego levels, then share them with your friends.

This is the best Lego game for the DS so far.

Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands

Sunshine Island is something totally different. No bad guys to fight here. The game is all about running a farm while maintaining an active social life.

Other activities you can try are fishing, mining and entering your pets in competitions. You advance in the game by finding magical sun stones. They allow additional islands to rise from the sea bottom. The new islands have new animals to befriend and new activities to take part in.

If you are looking for a relaxed non violent yet fun DS game then this is the one for you.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers

This game is based on a TV series and card game which is currently very popular with boys. The game made it onto the top ten DS games for boys list based on the franchise's popularity, not the quality of the game. The game is above average, but not as good as the other games here.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers itself is a series of duels. You fight using your Bakugan creatures and various spell-ups. It is fairly simple to do, but hard to get good at.

If you are thinking about buying this for someone, make sure they are a fan and then go ahead.

Mario Kart

Mario Kart lets you race as your favorite Nintendo characters. You do so in karts that can be armed with such devastating weapons as opponent-seeking red shells, banana peels, and shrinking lightning bolts.

The soundtrack, racing tracks and graphics all seem to work together to create the goofiest most fun racing game ever.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

No list of top Nintendo games can be complete without my favorite pointy eared, sword wielding, puzzle solving elf.

Phantom Hourglass is essentially a sequel to the GC Zelda adventure Wind Waker. It remains unmistakably Zelda with its tricky puzzles, perilous dungeons, and engaging boss battles. However the use of the touch screen does change the feel of the game a bit.

Lego Rock Band

This is the best music game on the DS for boys. Basically the band plays rock songs. You have to simulate playing one of the instruments, by hitting the right buttons at the right time. A bit like guitar hero.

New Super Mario Bros

This is a blast from the past for those of us who played the first Super Mario Bros. In this one they have taken the best from the first 3 Mario games and mixed it together into a new great game.
