Toy Farm Sets For Kids

Updated on November 21, 2014

Educate and Entertain with Toy Farm Sets for Toddlers

My daughter knew farm animal sounds before she learned how to talk. Her favorite nursery rhyme was Old MacDonald, so I figured that she would love one of those toy farm sets for kids so that she could pretend play with the farm animals and exercise her imagination and other developmental skills. I was right - the set provided her with hours of entertainment while also helping her learn about the farm in a fun way!

The range of toy farm sets for toddlers is very large. If you want, you can get the works with an all-in-one farm set, which in addition to all the farm animal toys, you get farm toy building sets and equipment, like tractors. You can also start small, with just the animals and keep building up the set with add-ons as your child grows.

Some sets have toy figurines that can make their respective farm sounds, some come as magnets, while some sets are made entirely of wood.

If you need help sorting through the vast range of farm sets, this article will give you all the information you need. I will only show you sets that have great customer reviews already, so you know you won't get a dud.

Magnetic Toy Farm Animal Sets

Kids love magnets and love collecting all kinds to play with. They'll cover your refrigerator or washing machine with them if they have enough! A farm set with animal magnets is easy to keep tidy and the animals can be played with on other metal surfaces too.

Djeco Wooden Magnet Farm Play Set

These 24 large wooden pieces have magnets fully fused to their backs and the paints are applied through a thermal process instead of just being painted on, so you'll get long lasting durability.

They're colorful and artfully illustrated and will allow a child's imagination to take over while playing with them on the fridge or any other magnetic surface.

Melissa & Doug Magnetic Farm Hide & Seek

If you'd rather get a simpler magnetic set, those are available too, like this Melissa and Doug wood set.

With brass hinged doors, magnets hiding behind them and illustrations under each piece, children over the age of 3 will be thrilled to play hide and seek with the animals by opening various doors to peek behind.

Most of the pieces can go in different places to make it interesting each time. This is a fun way to improve their memory skills too.

Wooden Farm Sets for Children

A wooden farmyard set with animals can be a great collectible to be passed down through generations. Realistic details of farm buildings are better represented in wood, so your child's make believe world will be even more interesting!

They are usually safer than many plastic sets, as a quality one will be devoid of dangerous toxins. The top rated sets made of wood also showcase excellent craftsmanship with an eye for detail.

Melissa & Doug Fold and Go Mini Barn

Melissa and Doug is a brand that is famous for all kinds of toys made of wood, and their children's wooden farm sets are beautiful. Their fully assembled mini wooden barn would make a great keepsake. It comes as a fold away set, so the pieces can be tidied up and the set can be closed easily, making it a great option for travel.

It comes with seven plastic animals, a wooden ladder and a wooden folding corral. It has sliding doors that help section the barn out to house all the animals.

My brother had the Fisher Price farm set when we were kids in the 60's. How cool to see it again. What was great about it then was that you could use the people and animals with other sets, etc. Thanks!
