What was your favorite Final Fantasy and why?
Everybody who ever played the Final Fantasy series has a particular title they favor over the rest. Which one is yours, and why?
Most definitely VII (Final Fantasy 7), mostly because it was the first one. But throughout the years I've seen how it has defined action RPGs with turn-based combat mechanics, resources, mini-games, storytelling with the past and present and over 200 hours of FMVs. Upon 7's release it was the most dynamic and influential product on the console, and as the Playstation's timeline came to a close, no other FF game saw as much loyalty and praise as 7.
Which was yours?
Believe me, I want to say 7 because it was that impactful, but my favorite was IX. While not as popular, it's story and mechanics were every bit as good and was so much fun to play, not once but several times.
I think Final Fantasy VI is my favorite. I felt that graphically it was the pinnacle of the 16 bit era, the characters were very unique and vivid and had their own shortcomings (which helped them feel very alive), the story was easily the most compelling and intricate.
Kefka was a refreshing change from the primary villains before and after, and was the only villain to ever truly succeed in their goals. All the others came close, but he was the first to truly succeed.
Lastly, I think the music is easily the best from the mainstream Final Fantasy games, especially the opera scene.
I feel that if FFVI and VII were swapped, VII wouldn't get near the attention that it's garnished over the years. It's a good game, but outside of the presentation I don't find the elements of it near as amazing as people tend to make it out to be.
Very sound and thought out choice. It always seems like the best games come right before a console switch and the new kid on the block (VII) gets on the love.
I would have to say FF7 is the best. I remember to older games but 7 was a game changer, literally. I investes many hours into this game and became enthralled with the characters and story. This was one of the best games of its time. Unfortunately the success of 7 was never duplicated. In fact I think some of the newer ones like ff10 were kind of a disappointment when compared to ff7. I think most people would agree with me as well. Why else is there still persistent references to Ff7 in todays society and culture if it weren't such a great game.
It was revolutionary for the time, implementing incredible new graphics with an amazing story and complete game play. It's hard to ever top something like that. I'd say the failure to at least equal the success is due to a lack of creativity since
i think final fantasy VI was the bomb because, well. do i even need to say really?
