Diablo 3 Blood and Sand Quest

In Diablo 3, somewhere near the forgotten ruins is the ancient waterway waypoint. Activate this and head north past a bridge into the Ancient Waterway area in the Oasis. The gates are shut initially. Zoltun Kulle will open the gates magically. Go beyond the gates and enter the Ancient Waterway. Within the ancient waterway, the hero must activate the western flow control lever and then the eastern flow control lever. This will allow the entrance to the waterlogged passage to be opened. This will allow the hero to enter the Desolate Sands area and search for Zoltun Kulle's blood. This is the blood and sand quest. This will provide a synopsis of the hero's journey through the ancient waterway to activate the flow control levers, followed by finding the jeweler Covetous Shen. Finally, brief notes will be provided on the hero's adventures through Desolate Sands and then the Cave of the Betrayer and the Vault of the Assassin to collect Kulle's blood.

Diablo 3 Ancient Waterway

The hero will initially enter the western channel area, where the hero must defeat lots of monsters and wander through a maze like dungeon to get to the western flow control lever. Activate this and the entrance to the eastern channel area will be opened. Go through the entrance.

Fight through more monsters and proceed to the eastern flow control lever. Pull the lever and the entrance to the waterlogged passage will be opened. Enter the waterlogged passage from the ancient waterway. Note that these maps may change depending on the hero playing the game.

Diablo 3 Covetous Shen

Within the hidden aqueducts, the hero encounters Covetous Shen. He is trapped within a barrel, and must be freed from the outside. Defeat the monsters surrounding the barrel and rescue Covetous Shen. Proceed to defeat his companion Gavin the thief in the next chamber. He has been corrupted by the evil in the Ancient Waterway. Once this is done, Covetous Shen will return to the hidden camp as the hero's jeweler. The hero can also carry on and enter the Desolate Sands area.

The jeweler Covetous Shen can produce gems of various refinements to put into items to increase their attributes and powers. The jeweler can also remove gems from equipment for a price.

Diablo 3 Get Blood of Zoltun Kulle from Cave of Betrayer and Vault of Assassin

In the desolate sands area, the first step is to activate the ancient gateway waypoint. The monsters here include gore harriers, lacuni, rockworms and the broodmother. The broodmother is especially interesting. When this creature is defeated, the hero can actually go down into the Cave of Burrowing Horrors (from within which the broodmother arose).

Distractions aside, the hero continues on in the main quest. The first area to enter is likely the Cave of the Betrayer. Within this cave, defeat all sorts of spiderlings, charged stingers and murderous fiends. Proceed through another maze like dungeon to get one portion of the blood of Zoltun Kulle. Remerge into the Desolate Sands. Head north for this particular hero to find the Vault of Assassin. Enter and dungeon crawl your way to find the second portion of the blood of Zoltun Kulle.

Zoltun Kulle will then lead the way for the hero to reach the archives of Zoltun Kulle. The black soulstone is almost within reach.
