What has been a new form of hobby for you? How did you come upon it? I have started painting art for the different rooms in my new house and can't wait to start the next project. The hours just seem to fly by.
Do you mean painting scenes on the walls or painting pictures? What kinds of scenes/pictures have you drawn? What is your medium?
Painting pictures. I use acrylic. I've always wanted to fill my house with my own art and I finally am at a point in my life where I can. Most of what I do is just to see how it comes out. If I like in return it's a bonus. I've painted a few abstract little pieces until I can build up the courage to do one I have in mind of a girl sitting in a chair looking out a window. I might be setting the bar high on that one. :-)
You should take a pic of your work and post them on this thread. It would be fun to see them. I always wanted to be able to paint with oils, but apparently you have to take a lesson or two to be good at it. Who knew!
Oils freak me out. I even bought a small set to start me off. Tried it a bit and just didn't stick with it. They involve so much extra cleanup too. Think I'll stick with acrylic. A while back I was on a glass painting kick. Really enjoyed that. Even did a hub on it. It was really fun. Now I'm back to trying to get down acrylics again. What do you like to paint Sed-me?
I tried in my early 20s. I wanted to paint like Renoir. I bought all the stuff... the paints, brushes, linseed oil, I was ready to create a masterpiece. I think b/c music came naturally to me, I thought other artistic things would too. I never needed to take a class to write a song, or learn to play guitar etc... why would I need one to paint? Well... cause I have no talent, that's why. I really love oil paintings, but it wasn't meant to be. I tend to be most impressed with talents that I do not posses, which are quite a lot, so I enjoy seeing other ppl's work. Post some if you get the chance, I'm sure every one would enjoy seeing them.
Here is one of my first attempts. It's ok for a beginner, I suppose.
(Do I need to say "jk"?)
Haha! I was gonna say what are you talking about that's awesome!! I'll post some things. They are not awesome but I'm proud of em and they came from my imagination. I keep trying to find my style and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm a copier of things. Maybe that's all I'll ever be. Don't know yet. I keep trying.
That's beautiful Beth. And it was beautiful when I painted it a few years ago. It's not very nice to pass work off as your when someone else should get the credit.
There's no way that's yours. It's a Renoir! I mean... it's mine!
Ren who? Look I studied art history in high school and college and can tell that that's my painting.
Yeah, I saw your masterpiece. It's hard to believe what some ppl can do with a clown and a little black velvet.
Hey what do you think of my avatar? My kid did it. I actually have much more hair, I have no idea why he did that. Rotten kids.
Actually, I like it very much. You have competition from sparticusjones right now. He wants that award and he wants it bad. I had already voted before he mentioned it, so I feel bad.
It would be interesting to see some of your original work used as images for your hubs, (even if not related to painting, just as a unique image source). It would add a dimension your fans would enjoy, and perhaps draw more attention to both your writing and art. You could fill your "HubPages House."
There is a terrifying shark pic. at the bottom of this thread.
I've refreshed several times and the closest I have come to a shark is a Cooper Mini, (much more of a guppy, really).
Ill copy it when I see it again. I don't like it!
Can you post an image in the forum without having it tied to a URL?
It's bothering me.
(Like that guy would really just be standing there all casual like that.)
He's safe. He has a small can of Acme Shark Repellant, a Coyote friend gave him.
Lol Sharks give me the heebie geebies. Them and alligators. That one, I would not want to be swimming alone with. He is huge.
That could be your salvation. I hear tell sharks are scared to death of heebie geebies. Of course, I might not bet my can of Acme Shark Repellant on that.
Im pretty sure that pics fake or doctored, but Im tired of looking at it.
Where did all that blood come from? It's like that guys fishing with live cows.
Paul Bunyan used to do that....until Babe made him think better of it.
I thought it might be enhanced too but after watching shark week on the Discovery channel I'm not so sure. :-)
Good morning! And thanks guys. I really had fun with the table. During a yard sale I bought a bunch of the frames and painted them to go with the pieces I painted. I'm trying to break out of my rigid mold of staying within the lines and being so exact. I'm still a work in progress.

Is everyone disappointed about HubPages new system/standards?I've been noticing some people express disappointment with the way HP is running business lately. Some people have lost Features, and others are having difficulty getting featured. I haven't had this problem at all yet. I'm not trying to...

Is painting a waste of my time if none of my art work sells? Or do I keep trying?

What strong childhood hobbies or interests have you taken into adulthood? We all have some hobby or interest that we 'get into' when we're young but have you continued with anything specific that has a definite grip on you? Perhaps you turned a hobby into a job or an interest became a vocation?...
