How is the head formed on a pin?

The wire out of which pins are made is fed forward, a pin-length at a time, between two jaws, which grip it tightly with enough wire projecting in front of them to make the head. While the wire is held, a die comes forward and squeezes the projection into a rounded hollow in itself and another in the jaws. The head is thus formed in a small fraction of a second. Then the pin-length is sheared off by the machine, and pushed out of the opening jaws by the wire behind it.
