    Could you tell me what kind of gem stone  this is?

    I found it in the gem mines in Franklin NC

    Looks like it could be soapstone. One way to tell is to get a good sharp pocket knife and see if you can carve it fairly easily. If it is soapstone, you can carve and shape it with files, rasps, and carving knives, then polish it with a soft cloth. It is generally a lovely green/translucent color. Not worth much as a 'gem', but a great artists' medium for sculpture.
