Is Dark Souls worth the money?

I have really been considering getting Dark Souls. Is the game worth buying?

I've heard that it's a really hard game but very worth it. Thanks for confirming that!

Without a doubt.  If you have Xbox, I would highly recommend signing up for Live if you don't have it already, because the online multiplayer aspect is very important if you don't want to be bashing your brains in because you have no help for boss battles.

One little bit of advice I'll give is, in regards to weapons, move set is more important than damage.  You can upgrade weapons, so what it really comes down to is which attack move set is your style/most effective (longsword is probably my favorite).  Also, picking the Master Key as your gift at the beginning is helpful, but not necessary in the least.  All in all, it really is only as hard as you make it on yourself.  If you want a real challenge: play as a deprived, level up only in Resistance, and pick the witch's ring as your gift.

It's hard, and requires a very different approach than most sword/sorcery games out there, but it's super fun and very rewarding.  Just be prepared to die...

Thanks Hanson! I don't know if I'll want a challenge right off the bat but I'll consider it for my second play-through.

If you've not bought it yet and still sitting on the fence, I'd recommend rental. Even if you don't like it for $7, it's better than paying $40 and not liking it, right? Either that or borrow it from a friend who has it, or get a cheap pre-owned copy. I've yet to play it, but if you're stuck for cash, it can wait.
