This depends wholly on the games you're playing. If you're playing a super easy, unimaginative and boring game then your mental abilities aren't going to improve. Whereas if you play more difficult games that require strategy or are just brain teasers, and you play them in moderation, chances are you'll improve your mental abilities and hone your skills in such activities.

There's different kinds of game out there, and everyone has different preferences for when they want to expand their mental abilities, be it knowledge, reflexes or imagination.

Yes. The mode of game is important

I suffered from memory issues for a while after I had thyroid surgery.  Playing puzzle games online actually helped with my memory.  Reading and engaging in social activities such as HubPages also helped.

I believe video games absolutely improves our mental ability.  I have been gaming for over thirty years, and I am the smartest person I know.

I think it can help with memory, but as all good things, it must be in moderation.
