Can you solve this one? Simple yet confusing.

A shopkeeper sold goods worth Rs 200 (zero profit sale) to a female customer.
She gave him 1000 Rs currency note. The shopkeeper didn’t have change with him and therefore he took change from the nearby shop. He kept Rs.200 with him and gave Rs 800 to the lady. Later the nearby shopkeeper came and said the 1000 Rs note was a fake one. Now he had to give back Rs 1000 to the nearby shopkeeper. Overall how much loss did the shopkeeper had to suffer?

He lost Rs 1000.

He gave a fake Rs 1000 note to the other shopkeeper who gave him real notes totalling Rs 1000 in return. He gave 800 of that to the customer and kept 200 in return for the goods sold.

He then had to take that 200 plus an additional 800 out of his pocket and give it back to the other shopkeeper.

So, he lost the 800 out of his pocket plus the 200 that the goods were worth, for a total loss of Rs 1000.

The customer has the missing Rs 1000 (200 worth of goods plus the 800 in change).

I'd say he lost 1,000 plus the value of the 200 in goods the lady got.
