Does anyone play board games any more? What are your favorites?
I like Monopoly, Carcassone, Chess and Go to start. Anyone else?
Have you tried many modern board games? Here's a few great ones to start with: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Board-Games-NZ
Talisman, Arkham Horror, Zombies!!!, and a few homebrew ones I've put together over the years. Board games rock!
It's gotta be Monopoly, the game that can turn even the most loving family against each other.
I like that in a board game.
I enjoy the ones where I get to tie someone to a board then do as I wish with them...I guess this doesn't really count as a board game huh?
I learned to play Chess as a mathematical game when I was a college student. it made me think before I acted; but sometimes you forget to think and discover what happens next.Checkers and Backgammon went together because they were back to back on the game board. Getting on the bullrun was fun in checkers as it gave you the upper hand unless the opponent knew how to corner you. Backgammon was another strategy game calling for much thought.Play Sorry when you want to upset some people. One time we played with an invisible player and he beat everybody in every game. I still laugh at the thought!
My all time FAVORITE game is CLUE! What can I say I love my mystery type games. I want to get the new Clue Spies and Secret Messages
I like Scrabble, Chess, Risk, Quick Wit, ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... oh my list is never ending.
I used to like playing Scrabble, but haven't played in quite a while. Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly are also fun once in a while.
We play all the time with the kids - Sorry, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly & Payday just to name a few.
Scrabble is my favorite
My family and friends and I have enjoyed the games such as Monopoly, Cranium, Pictionary, Carcassonne, and the new big hit, Killer Bunnies. We also enjoy playing many card games such as President, 22, Up and Down the River (And other Whist variations), etc. etc. the list goes on. We seem to go through phases though, and right now the hot item is Killer Bunnies, it gets played nearly every day.
I write a hub on it..life is a board game..
I love "Life"..it was fun picking up children, spouse, car, home, career, and the big spinning wheel ,
My brothers and I grew up on Monopoly like everyone else.
Trivial Pursuit literature questions were a little difficult for
us to answer. The original one had classic literature questions from the 40's.
Trouble and Parcheesi seemed to be the same game to me.
I love monopoly, chess, scrabble, and..............Snakes and Ladders!!!!
I have to say I love many board games but some favourites of mine are cluedo, risk and scrabble. Although I do occasionally love monopoly and avidly play chess they are not my prefered board games
Here are my favourite three.

They all sell well in New Zealand too.

I like Chess and Cribbage. My family also enjoys Settlers of Cataan (sp?) and the tak-offs from it.
Scrabble is my all time favorite. My family plays scrabble every weekend. I play everyday. Did you know that QI is a word? Well it is in the OFFICIAL Scrabble Dictionary. My sixteen year old daughter loves to play also. The love of words does not entice my son but that's okay. I play board scrabble as well as ON line scrabble. It allows me to play people all over the world. I love the challenge as there are different levels and I can always get a game in for 3 minutes or 5 minutes or 10 minutes, even longer. There are several sites out there. I would love to hear about similar games to Scrabble from other Scrabble enthusiasts
Chess, Balderdash, Pictionary, Trivial Persuit, Monopoly, Risk.
I playing Taboo, Catch Phrase, and Apples to Apples, especially with big groups of people. The first two are really crazy games that are so much fun to play with a bunch of friends.
Monopoly. Even at the age of 8 that game had me turning into a ruthless corporate executive doing anything to sabotage my opponents. I'd make all sorts of deals that may or may not have been within the rules, such as trading a property that gave another player a monopoly in exchange for a property that gave me a monopoly, with the condition that I get a free or discounted rate on their monopoly (they usually went for it if I was giving them a more expensive one).
For any first time Monopoly players out there, let me give you one piece of advice: get the orange properties. They are cheap to build on, they get landed on the most often (6, 8, and 9 spaces from jail) and they are pretty expensive with a hotel. You can really hamstring an opponent by trading them something like a green monopoly for an orange monopoly. They'll go bankrupt building on the greens while trying to pay their bill on the oranges.
I've always loved Othello, but after several games, I have trouble finding a competitor. Luckily, my oldest son also enjoys it.
Nothing competes with Axis & Allies. Except perhaps Twilight Imperium.
