The Currencies of League of Legends

League of Legends has two different in-game currencies that are used by players, they are Riot Points and Influence Points.

Each currency has different uses and is available through different methods.

Influence Points (IP) are the main currency of League of Legends are are earned for playing games in LoL. Players are awarded more IP for winning than losing, while the length of the game also affects the amount of IP earned. Influence Points can also be earned by voting in Tribunal cases.

Influence Points can be spent on champion unlocks, runes and rune pages (bundle). There are Influence Points Boosts available in the Riot Store that can be purchased with Riot Points, they are also awarded for free at certain levels or events.

Riot Points are the second available currency in League of Legends and must be purchased for real money either through PayPal, credit card or prepaid cards (which are sold at many retail outlets).

Riot Points can be spent on champions, skins, rune pages and various boosts. The only restriction is runes which cannot be purchased with RP, this prevents players from gaining an unfair advantage by spending cash (something not enough online games do). Without Riot Points players will have a hard time unlocking all the playable champions in League of Legends.

League of Legends occasionally give out free Riot Points for special events to reward active players.
