5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD EAT A MANGO TODAY

Updated on January 28, 2020

I have just finished eating four big sized mangoes and I was wondering, what are the health benefits of these delicious and succulent fruits? After doing some research I have realized more to their sweet taste and enticing aroma, mangoes are loaded with benefits that will help improve your overall physical health.

Firstly, a mango is a tropical fruit that is indigenous in India. Its skin is leathery and has a succulent juicy pulp that is mostly yellow when ripe. Although, the skin color may vary according to variety; from green to yellow mostly, ripe mangoes should feel soft to the touch. The fruit is rich in vitamins, fiber, mangiferin and amylase (an enzyme that breaks starch in carbs into simple sugars) which are good for your body.

They boost your immunity

The mango fruit is rich in Vitamins A and C which are great for improving our body immunity. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is responsible for keeping away immunodeficiency ailments, the formation of strong bones and teeth, and the repairing and development of body tissues.

Vitamin C is not stored in the body but eliminated periodically when in excess. Therefore to maintain high levels of this vital vitamin one needs to take ample servings of vegetables and fruits like mangoes, oranges and citrus fruits occasionally.

Mangoes have plenty of Vitamin A also known as Beta-carotene that improves the functionality of the heart, lungs, and skin. Beta carotene reduces the risk of skin, colon, lung and prostate cancer.

Mangoes reduce the risk of cancer

A mango will reduce your chances of developing cancer since it has anti-oxidants that eliminate free radicals, and other pollutants such as cigarette smoke that builds up in parts of the body and end up causing cancer and arthritis.

They boost your sex drive

The fruit is an aphrodisiac that increases virility in men. Mangoes blaze up sexual intimacy by intensifying the passion, increasing stamina and allowing the production of healthier sperms.

They are anti diabetic

Mangoes and especially their tough outer skin suppress diabetes,

Consistent consumption of mangoes for long periods leads to the lowering of the blood sugar levels. Mangiferin a phytochemical found in the fruit reduces blood glucose and is beneficial for fighting type 2 diabetes. Studies have also shown that there are anti diabetic properties in the mango peels.

Weight loss

The phytochemicals on the outer side of the mango act as natural fat busters and make the fruit a supplement for your weight loss formula. Of course, it sounds preposterous eating mango peels but research shows that the mango skin inhibits adipogenesis or the formation of fat cells. However, it is only in a certain strain of mangoes. Consumers should also look out not to be allergic to the skin as it contains urushiol a certain chemical compound that might be irritable to the skin.
