Let's Be Real, Are You Happy?

Updated on July 8, 2017

Be Happy!

Ask a thousand people if they are happy and you will get the typical “yes” or “I think so” but really, are most people happy? Are you happy? How do you define happiness? Go on the web and put in “define happiness” and so many definitions pop up, this is the one I believed to fit closest to what I believe happiness means; “state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy”

Well, let me tell you my theory, I am a happy person by nature, seriously, since I am a writer, and I like to write about life experiences, most people think I am dark and sad. But I can tell you that I am not.

Actually, I am happy, I love life and I love to live life. I love to hear people tell me stories and their experiences. I love to read and interpret stories too. My father has told me so many stories that I could tell you them over and over again just because I enjoy hearing them so much. I will be honest, some stories bore me to tears, I struggle through it with a happy face but come on people, read the signs, if the person’s eyes are glazed over, they aren’t listening to your stupid story. It’s when the person’s body language is telling you they are interested, leaning into you, nodding their head, etc… these are the good signs to watch for when telling a story.

But I got off track a little, I am a writer and I love hearing about life, love, tough times and good times. I like being over the edge and I like to bring out the hard core stuff to talk or write about. I like the deep heart filled stuff that no one wants to hear about because when those people tell you their deepest darkest secrets they are free. Free of guilt, shame and whatever other emotion they are holding onto. They just gave it to you and now they are free. Believe that is when I write when I become that dark person and write about issues we usually don’t discuss in households.

Again, let me ask you, are you happy? I am happy and I bet you want to know why I am happy, right? Well, if you don’t I am going to tell you anyway! I am happy because I ask God for forgiveness, for my sins (or what I think are sins) and I pray for my family and friends. I am happy because even though I am overweight I love me, that I am friendly, so outgoing, I like to talk and listen to others to talk. I am a good aunt; the best really, could always be a better mother and could even be a better daughter. But over all, I am a solid wife and sister and love to be with all kinds of people. I am happy because I accept who I am and try and work on being better each and every day. If you are not happy, then look within, I mean, look in your soul and mind, then ask yourself, are you happy? Happiness is an emotion that you control, you can be happy if you want to be. Don’t think that having all the materials items makes you happy, it doesn’t. Being a good person, giving to others, time, money, energy, whatever you can give, give for the right reasons. Happiness starts within and that is where you have to look, so take a deep dive into your soul and figure it out.

I am happy but want to continue to learn and improve as a person. I could go on but while I am sitting here writing this hub, I hear my son playing outside, so forgive me, if I leave you hanging but I am going to go play with my son because that makes me happy.
