Bring It: P90X Day 29

Updated on December 29, 2011

Bring It is a continuing series documenting my personal journey with the P90X DVD series, created by Tony Horton. This is one tough workout, consisting of three different phases, each having just one week of recovery. It is intended to get you in the best shape of your life. I am here to either prove it or disprove it!

If you would like to start from the beginning of this series, please click here. If you want to read about my previous day with P90X, click here.

Feel free to leave your comments below. Without you, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have and I thank you for your support.

Bring It

Today was an exciting day. Not only was it result day, but it was also the first day of phase 2. I have made it through the first entire month of this program. I was super stoked and I was looking forward to changing things up with a new workout.

Today the focus was on Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps. Let me tell you, this is a killer workout. While most females are typically weaker in their upper body than the male counterparts, this one will definately get you buff from the top down. To put it easily - it is chock full of every type of push up that you can manage.

I am not very strong with my upper body and I struggle with doing push ups. This was not an easy workout for me at all. Alot of the exercises I couldn't actually do. I would try but my arms would give out. Today, my arms were complete jello. I was grateful for the easier moves included like chair dips and tricep extensions. Those I could complete without falling to the floor!

The exercises in this workout are also difficult to modify. One pushup had you put your body in a V shape (like downward dog from yoga) and do a push up. You are suppossed to bring your forehead to the ground. Hopefully you don't fall to the ground.

This workout was a little much for me. It makes me wonder if I should have completed another phase 1, but I want to hit all the workouts in the entire series. But, as Tony Horton always says, "Doy your best and forget the rest!" That was what I did and I still got a good workout!

Results

I have no completed four full weeks, and if you have been following me on my journey, you know every Monday I record my results. It is important to me to not only use the scale, but also use the measuring tape. My results are measured in pounds, body fat percentage, BMI and inches. The results depict the number from the very beginning.

  • Weight Loss - loss of 3.3 pounds
  • Body Fat percentage - loss of 1.1 percent
  • BMI - loss of one point
  • Inches - loss of 10 inches

Frustration

I am not going to lie, but I am getting a little frustrated. I have been busting my behind, doing more than an hour worth of exercise each day for the past 29 days and all I have to show for it is 3.3 pounds. That doesn't even equal a pound a week.

Now, I am a smart girl. I understand muscles weighs more than fat. But I also know I have enough weight to lose that one pound a week seems to be a bit of a short coming. I am happy with the amount of incehs I have lost, and in the mirror, I can definately see the transformation. Yet, I am a person that likes concrete numbers. I want to be able to say, "I lost 10 pounds (or insert great number achievement hear!)" when someone asks me about it.

Unfortunatately, it did not work out that way.

For phase 2 I am hoping the results will start making a showing. I am not snuffing at the number of inches - and the fact is a loss of 1.1 percent body fat is nothing to cry about. But, I am a little disappointed. I was expecting so much more.

However, I am going to keep pushing on. If not for the results, but just so I can say I survived the entire 90 days of P90X. I can do it, and I know it. The results will follow. But, I stewed on it all day today. I guess that means it is a good thing I wrote this later. Otherwise it would have been even more negative!

On a good note...

I have to say, even with the lack of results, it still turned out to be a good day. How could it not? It is Halloween and it is one of our favorite holidays!

So, the entire family got dressed up. We walked the entire neighborhood - probably close to 4 miles worth. Add the extra 2 miles I put on earlier today, and I went for quit the hike today. So, whatever was lacking in my workout earlier, I definately made up for later on. Good thing too - because we got loads of candy sitting on the counter!

Happy Halloween everybody!
