About Dr Hyman

Dr. Hyman is the Medical Director at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine, as well as the Founder of The UltraWellness Center, and is number 1 New York Times Bestselling author ten times over.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s what the pharmacologists don’t want you to know...

Dr Hyman’s altruistic 'docuseries' was showcased for free in January 2018, Dr Hyman and other leading medical specialists discuss and explain the link to what we eat and our brain health.

It is imperative that the information gets to as many people as possible; the series is broken down into eight videos or blocks, each approximately 90 minutes long:

Episode 1: The Broken Brain Epidemic / My Story

Episode 2: Gut Brain Connection: Getting to The Root of a Broken Brain

Episode 3: Losing Our Minds (Alzheimer’s, Dementia & MS)

Episode 4: ADHD & Autism

Episode 5: Depression & Anxiety

Episode 6: Traumatic Brain Injury (Accidents, Sports, & More)

Episode 7: 7 Steps to An UltraMind (Part 1)

Episode 8: 7 Steps to An UltraMind (Part 2)

It Starts in the Gut

In the series Dr Hyman talks about and discusses with other medical professionals about gut health and how it impacts on other areas of our lives.

Many doctors now realize that good gut health is key to many, many conditions, not just a few, not just those listed in the titles above, but over 100 conditions that effect our health and well being. Many psychological conditions can be cured and prevented by taking a few steps to having a healthy gut.

Experts discuss the standard American diet, ironically given the acronym SAD, the standard American diet tends to be low fat, high sugar, with carbohydrates from things like wheat bread.

We are advised why this is now known to be wrong, our brains need fat to perform well, our gut needs to be healthy for the rest of our body to be healthy and for our brains to function well. A lot of what Dr Hyman and fellow experts tell us is common sense (especially once they tell us), some will astound you.

Eat Well

All disease begins in the gut

— Hippocrates

Hippocrates Was Right

This is not a new phenomenon, the crux of the findings and message is that it has taken us all this time to get back to where the famous Greek Physician Hippocrates was 2500 years ago.

Finally, 2500 years later humans have realized that Hippocrates was right and many, many illness’s can be cured and prevented by improving our gut health first and foremost.

But, what can you as in individual do about it? Simple, change your own diet and exercise regime. Tell other people, we owe it to our children to change the way they eat and fuel their bodies. In one of the videos someone said something along the lines of look after your body it is the only vessel you have got to get you through this life. Indeed, don’t we all want to be as healthy as we possibly can? That does not mean renouncing ourselves it means making a few changes for our current and future health. In fact in means optimizing our health and taking control of our own destiny. It is possible and indeed desirable to have an enjoyable, varied diet that feeds our bodies including our brains and many of us will only need to make a few small changes to do so. Do so, and the results will most probably astound you.

The Broken Brain Series

Dr Hyman's introduction:

'What leads to a broken brain? Most of us never learn how to manage our energy and bodies. Instead, we use drugs like sugar, caffeine, and alcohol to self-medicate and manage our energy and moods. We don’t connect our behaviors and choices with how we feel.

The key insight is that your brain is an organ that’s connected to everything else happening in your body. Fixing your brain starts with fixing your body: optimizing all the inputs and taking out the bad influences. The brain is resilient and can recover and heal when given the right conditions.'

Presented in a friendly way

The presentation is easy to follow, a little repetitive at times, but the format is friendly and easy for lay people to understand and follow. By beginning with his own story Dr Hyman gives a huge amount of credibility to the following information a lot of which is already available in the common domain, but by putting it all together in this way and by giving examples of the positive impact that a few lifestyle changes can make our or current and future health a program of healthy, comfortable and optimized living is created.

The messages are strong and they need to be, if we are to move forward with healthy lives, free from painful and degenerative brain illnesses we need to listen and act on what we hear.

Discussion is largely around the need for a healthy gut, but also the need to feed our brain in other ways.

Use it or Lose it?

Choices

The choice is ours, use our brain by challenging it daily, exercise to increase blood flow and keep our bodies healthy.

One of the biggest problems we face with regard to these findings, and listen to the series, it is common sense, easy to achieve and logical once it is presented to you, one of the biggest problems is that the pharmaceutical industry is a powerful multi billion $ industry and they do not want us to make these simple lifestyle changes, they want us to continue to pop the pills and then pop more pills to counteract the side effects of the first pills and so on.....

There is a better way and I urge you to seek out the Broken Brain video series to learn how you can optimize your own health and that of your family.

WARNING!

The writer is not a physician, merely an ordinary person with an interest in health and healthy options, do not stop taking any medicines prescribed to you, just discuss what is here with your doctor.

On the gut health project website they advise that there are over 170 health conditions linked to an unhealthy gut and list some of them. for background reading their information also supports the theory.

I Believe...

...Children are our future.... (Creed, 1977)

The above photo was found on the website for Fort Leavenworth Unified School and they have the right idea to brain health, exercise and brain health is part of the puzzle, here's some of what they state on the website:

'Exercise creates the optimal environment for neural plasticity, the ability of the brain to physically change. Exercise puts the brain and body into balance naturally by regulating brain chemicals that control mood and responses to stress while developing neurological connections to increase academic success.'

It is inspiring that a school is already doing that.
