Benefits of a Detox Cleanse

Updated on February 26, 2014

In today’s modern world, it is simply a fact of life that they body takes in many toxins from the environment. The air that we breath is full of smoke, dust, invisible gases, and many other pollutants. At the same time, the water we drink, no matter how much it might be processed by the city we live in or by our own water filters, is filled with both biological and human made toxins. As well, the food we eat is tainted with pesticides and herbicides as farmers attempt to  yield more crops from tired soils. Modern foods can also be full of preservatives, artificial flavorings, and other chemicals. In fact, it can be seen that we are beset by toxins from all sides.

Given this state of things, our bodies can at times use a bit of help. We need to cleanse ourselves of these chemicals and pollutants so that our body can do its work in an efficient and healthful manner. One of the most effective ways to flush the body of these harmful substances is with a detox cleanse.

Detox cleanse can range from raw food diets to liquid diets over a certain period of time.

What is Detox Cleanse?

A detox cleanse is basically a program by which you flush your body of the contaminants it takes in over the simple course of living. Through the use of certain kinds of foods and liquids, vitamins and minerals, and special preparations sold for the purposes of detox cleansing, the toxins in your system—in your organs and bloodstream, in your skin—are removed. Once these harmful substances are flushed away, your bodily systems work more efficiently, carrying out the processes of digestion, circulation, waste elimination, and disease fighting with renewed vigor. A detox cleanse can restore your energy and mental clarity, making you feel years younger.

Results of a Cleanse

There are many benefits to a program of toxin cleansing. Every organ and system within our bodies can be compromised by the build up of harmful substances. A detox cleanse will restore the natural balances inside us.

When toxins accumulate in the kidneys and liver, these organs cannot perform their jobs as well as they should, which is keeping the blood clean and helping your body in the elimination of waste. Thus, scouring these important organs of toxins through a detox cleanse will jump start a process of a long term return to health. Think of it like flushing your car’s radiator of buildups of sludge and calcifications so that the radiator can do its job of keeping the car cool.

A detox cleanse can also help improve the health and appearance of the skin. The skin is the organ that receives the most direct contact with the outer world and thus comes into contact with harmful and even poisonous substances on a daily basis. These toxins accumulate in the skin, clogging up pores and degrading the health of the skin cells. The detox cleanse will restore the vigor of the skin so that it takes on the flush and tone it once had.

Detox Cleanse for Mental Health

Recent scientific research has told us something we’ve all known for a long time: a healthy body makes for a healthy mind. In other words, a body that has been slowed down by a build up of toxins will cause a parallel drop off in function of the mind. We all know this as true whenever we get sick. As our bodies feel heavy and sluggish in the middle of a cold or the flu, our minds become foggy and less sharp as well.

Thus, a detox cleanse will not only help our bodies back to health and vigor, it will help restore our mental health as well. Studies have shown that once the accumulations of harmful toxins have been removed from the system, students perform better in the classroom and even on tests. Cleansing improves memory and concentration. Riding the brain of aluminum and other foreign substances helps ward off the serious consequences of Alzheimer’s disease.

Give Your Immune System a Boost

Perhaps the most important benefit of a detox cleanse is the boost it gives to your immune system. The immune system is the body’s way of fighting off disease, of keeping you in tip top health. Once the toxins are flushed from your body through a program of detox cleansing, the immune system is boosted. It’s almost like an energy drink for your white blood cells and other disease fighting systems. Not only will this protect you from less serious illness such as the flu and colds, it offers long term protection against serious diseases like cancer and diabetes.

Don't forget while you are doing your cleanse that this is a good time to take a look at your body and your feelings as a whole and decide if you want to take a moment to reconnect your body and mind. Balance is an important thing to have, and if you don't have your priorities int he same place (calm, focused mind along with a cleansed body), you might fall right back into your old habits before your cleanse. You can always do another cleanse in a few months if you feel that you need a pick me up, but you want to start out right from the gate. Introducing new forms of exercise or meditation can help with this, and will be better for you in the long run.

A detox cleanse is one of the most important things you can do to help yourself stay healthy, maintain or restore your energy levels, and keep you looking great. Check out the many great detox cleansing products and programs available and you’ll feel years younger.
