Dont Worry,Be Happy!
Why is there so much worry in the world? I know there's alot of negativity going on in the world, especially in the media, on the news and CNN. Foreclosure, high divorce rates, unemployment, Japan's nuclear waste issue, I mean jezz, the topics are endless. I'm not saying to stop watching these programs, its good to keep up on current events and whats going on in the world, but you also need an outlet for positive media, balance is the key. If all your ingesting into your mind, body and soul is negativity, sadly that is what you will become. Now lets define the word Worry because every one uses it but i don't think any one has a clear definition. Webster's (Worry) defined, mental distress or agitation resulting from concern. Now that we have that cleared away lets look at what worrying does to our health. Lets start with the mind, worrying causes anxiety which leads to depression. Second, the body, head aches,dizziness, High blood pressure, strokes, cardiovascular disease, Lowers your immune system system, ulcers.....the list goes on and on. Third, the soul, low self esteem and emptiness.
Because so many people are developing these diseases from worry,there is actually a medical condition that has been developed. Neuroticism, defined as, excessive worry over minor events. Now exactly what are people worrying about? Bills,health-care, daycare, money. Well as far as bills go, why worry about something you already know is coming every month. And by the way pat your self on the back, why? Because you pull it off every month, and to me that's something worth celebrating and being positive about. Remember no matter how bad you may think your situation is, there is always somebody else in a worse off condition. Worrying less can lengthen your life period!
Lets get some positivity ingested into your mind, body and soul, physical activity. Daily exercise releases endorphins to the brain, these endorphin are euphoric,they make you feel happy and there also addicting,that's why you have people who are addicts when it comes to the gym. I know there are people saying,well i cant afford a gym membership now, well jogging in the park or on local trails do the trick also and there's no fee involved in that. Also check your health insurance a lot them now pay yearly gym memberships, as we all know the healthier you are, the less likely you will end up with terminal disease down the road, so its a small price for the health insurance company now, instead of paying for constant Dr's visits, prescriptions and maybe even surgery. There are also gyms that are free especially for senior citizens. Practice meditation or take up yoga, these are great ways to just let loose and relax, I try to meditate daily and go to yoga once a week and it really helps me to stay focus on the more important things in my life and not sweat the small stuff so much.
Connecting with others , is a great way to help worrying. I worked in the mental health field for a short period of time, and a lot of the patients main concerns were not having a support system, they were all alone. Well try to join a group, if you like to cook, look at taking cooking classes to learn new recipe's and also met people who also like cooking. Love poetry? There are tons of poetry groups, some are even free, or better yet start your own, how? Well start a Facebook or Twitter and add friends or follow people who have the same interest as you, after you've gained enough members, send out an evite to all your friends on the web, meet at a local cafe or Barnes and Nobles and get started. Helping others is a great way to add some positivity into your life, like i said before, there is always someone who is worse off, join a cause or volunteer at a homeless shelter or just help someone you know who personally needs help. Get enough sleep , its very important, I use to be a sleep deprived worrier and could not sleep! I started using a natural supplement called Melatonin, I use 5mg and it works wonders, you can get it from GNC or Amazon.com, its only about 14.99 a bottle. You have have natural melatonin that your body produces, sometimes its not enough and you need a little help.
Take regular breaks and vacations , don't worry about spending a lot of money, I live in Atlanta and I take frequent trips to Ty bee Island which is about 3 hours away in Savannah. Fill up your gas tank, get a $40 dollar a night hotel and enjoy the beach and the waves for a couple of days, don't ponder about it or think to hard, JUST DO IT!! Feed your mind inspirational material self help books are great, there are a lot of positive short 3 minute mind movies on YouTube that i watch daily, they keep me motivated and inspired. Now there are some of you reading this blog who are far past the depression stage and may need professional help. Its ok to seek professional help, you are not crazy, you either have ingested so much negativity in your lifetime, it may take a professional to help get it out. Or mental illness may run in your family and it has been passed along to you by nature. What ever the case may be talking to a counselor may help, don't knock antidepressants they help, and they even have new ones that help with depression and help you lose weight. Worrying about the future keeps you from being your best today, taking it one day at a time helps from worrying also, I'm not perfect, and i use to be a chronic worrier. Worry, slips in and out now and again but i know how to control and get rid of it fast and because of that I am a better happier person, don't give up hope, keep hope alive :)
