Happiness: How to Enjoy Your Life
Happiness: How to Enjoy Your Life
Improve Your Mood
Everyone has times that they feel down, are stressed out, or just plain cranky. With a few of these tips, anyone can alter their mood and escape from the grind of their life even if just for a moment. Overall, happiness is about letting go of things we can not change and putting things in a more positive perspective.
Smile
Even if you don't feel like it, try smiling for a few seconds. It actually brings you feelings of happiness. If you smile and unsmile for a few minutes, you might just get caught up in uncontrollable laughter just from your silly actions. Remember, it takes many more muscles to frown then it does to smile. So, be lighthearted and smile no matter how you feel.
Get Active Outside
One can actually begin to feel depressed if he or she does not get enough sunlight. Vitamin D is provided by the sun that helps us to absorb calcium. Serotonin transmits nerve impulses in our brain that relate with our mood. The sun increases the levels of serotonin and therefore improves our state of mind. So, in order to live a happier life, spend some time outside.
If you want to feel even better, make sure your outdoor activities include sports or other physical activities. When you move and stay active, you're body releases endorphins that create pleasure. You can kick around a soccer ball with the kids, go to a block party and dance, or even just walk with your friends. Just make sure you are having fun while you exercise in order to improve your mood.
Be Thankful and Reflect
If you write down all your blessings, you will begin to realize all that you have to be thankful for. This can increase happiness even in the most dismal circumstances. Instead of thinking, "I'm not sure how I'm going to pay all of my bills," you can think, "I'm healthy, I have great family and friends, and I can afford everything essential." Basically, writing a list of what is good about your life puts things in more a positive perspective.
In addition, thinking about good times in your life helps you to relive those moments and put you in a better state of mind. This can be done by looking at old pictures, chatting with friends about a previous event, or even just picturing it in your mind. It allows one to temporarily escape his or her present circumstances and visit happier memories; it can alter one's mood and help you to deal with present stresses.
Surround Yourself With Happiness
One of the simplest ways to be happy is to surround yourself with positive people. If you are spending time with others that are negative and always complaining, it is almost impossible to be happy. Even if it means findings new friends, look for someone that enjoys life and is filled with joy.
Another way is to find a hobby or activity that you will have fun participating in. Most people's lives are stressful today and are overly filled with technology. It's important to take a break from work, turn off the cell phone and computer, and find some time for yourself. This could include reading, painting, jogging, or just spending time with some friends. If you are always working or people can contact you at anytime through electronic devices, you will become a stressed out, grouchy person. Make sure to have some "me-time"; everyone will be appreciative to see a happier 'you'!
