Home Remedies for Angular Cheilitis

Lip Remedies

Angular Cheilitis is related to chapped lips that create cracks and sores at the corner of the mouth. It’s a common problem that affects almost everyone at one time or another. Chances are, you have experienced this at least once or twice in your life during the dry season or after an illness. If you've experienced the inflammation and soreness that come with extremely dry, chapped, especially at the corner of mouth, you know how bad it can be!

What Causes Dry, Chapped, Cracked Lips?

Generally in dry-hot summer, chilly winter or in windy weather skin can dry out, including the lips. But the problem with lips is that it can’t produce oils like the rest of your skin to protect it from dryness. This is why they get cracked as well as chapped.

People ignore their lips very often. They don't think about chapping, cracking and dryness until it's already beginning to bother them. When they feel soreness along with heavy pain at the corner of their mouth, they start licking lips frequently to get relief. The problem is that licking actually paves the way to fungus and yeast to grow around lips which ultimately leads to Angular Cheilitis?

Yes, these all are reasons behind your red, painful and cracked opening at the corner of lips for what you feel lots of problem while talking, eating or touching it.

Cracked Lips and Chapped Lips Remedy

Stop licking! I know how tempting it can be but it only exacerbates the problem. If you can't break the habit, then protect your lips with a heavy coating of vaseline or lip balm. These will act as a moisture-proof barrier and stop you from making your lips worth.

Take some B12. Sometimes Angular Cheilitis happens because of a vitamin b12 deficiency. Talk to your doctor. You can get a blood test to check your b12 levels. If they're low, consider taking supplements.

Make sure your dentures fit well-- ill-fitting dentures that distort the shape of your mouth can result in Angular Cheilitis, leaving cracked and chapped lips.

Get athelete's foot cream and rub it on your mouth. Athelete's foot remedies are both antibacterial and antifungal, so if you have any fungus or bacteria causing cracked lips in the corners of your mouth, the cream can help it.

Use tea tree oil on your lips-- tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial substance.

Avoid flavored toothpaste-- it can irritate Angular Cheilitis.

Get checked for sexually transmitted diseases. They can sometimes be the culprit in persistantly cracked lips or dry, peeling lips.

Use a humidifier in the house to prevent your lips from starting to chap and crack at all. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

My sister cured her angular chelitis with oil of oregano diluted with olive oil. It started working overnight, and she was thrilled. She had suffered with it for years and had tried every antifungal ointment, etc. on the market, even one that cost over $180.
